I notice the censor police on this board are at it again, deleting our posts and comments. Makes me wonder WTF these type of forums are useful for. Gimme a break, are you guys trying to protect a certain players reputation. Can't help it if some of the population out there has a certain opinion you don't like. Go ahead CENSOR MY POST!!!

Is that where my tongue in cheek post diappeared to?
A friend of a freind who once saw a Jets player at a car wash told me the Diamond Club and Wise Guys have been closed for years.
In fairness to the Mods, the newly locked thread had run its course and wasn't serving any useful purpose anymore. I am sure when the Kane trade rumours heat up again a new thread will emerge.
On a side note, reliable sources are reporting that Kane will not dress for tonights game.

What was deleted?
The Kane thread was worth locking as it was long and had gone off topic. But I'd agree that the mods have to be careful about censoring posts or threads.
As far as libel with message boards, I wouldnt hold my breath. Speculating on confirmed twitter postings or postings made on other websites isnt going to get anyone here in trouble.
If it was out of the blue such as a player you'd never suspect and someone posted that he was seen cheating on his wife, I could under the sensitivity of that and frankly not really any of our business.
I think the Kane stories were unique in that he had suddenly begun playing poorly, was clearly in the dog house, a popular blog site had reported rumours of his gf being in Boston with him when he played poorly and ofcourse the other rumours coming to light. It all seemed far too much of a coincedence. I think it was suitable for discussion because it falls under "why is he playing so poorly".
But the thread became too long with too many people reading the title of the thread and not the posts and making moronic remarks like "stupid trade".

Censorship of any kind is unacceptable.

I don't know about this one...
This is not MY forum, although I am a member here. I recognize there are rules set forth by the Admin such as:
You agree not to post or link to any abusive, obscene, vulgar, defamatory, libelous, hateful, threatening, sexually-explicit or any other material that may violate any applicable laws. Doing so may lead to you being immediately and permanently banned. You agree that the administrators and moderators of this forum have the right to remove, edit, move or close any post or topic at any time should they see fit in their sole discretion.
AND
Defamation/Libel: Any posts libeling players, prospects, or hockey personnel or any other persons are strictly prohibited. It's not acceptable to post that you heard Player X has a drinking/drug/sex/personal problem from a "good" source. A link to a credible media source must be posted to support such claims. Other forums and personal websites or blogs are not credible for such purposes.
Both found in the "Rules and Regulations for posting"
If I didn't like the rules, or like how the mods did things I'd head to a different forum where I liked the rules (or lack thereof) better.
Easy solution.

It just goes to show you that no matter how much leeway the moderators give, it's never enough for some people. If you think this forum is over moderated, you're crazy.

There was nothing in the Kane thread that was obvious libel in an internet message board sense. Believe me.

Oh, man lovely. Just logged in. I'm not sure of the posts in question, but those of us moderating this board are not pro censorship -- I can assure you of that. It is one of the first points I made when we were discussing this forum. That we want maximum amount of free expression of opinion even for people we disagree with strongly, but you can never please everyone. I now see this from the running a message board/moderating point of view.
We certainly would not censor someone's opinion for no reason. Unproven or sourced rumours about someone that potentially damage their reputation are less protected -- and rightly so. There are laws against that. There are also ethical considerations. We have to get this right though.
The amount of posters that have been banned or even warned in almost 6 months is less than a handful, and most of those have been spammers of advertisements with IP address from the Chinese mainland!
Sorry for rambling, but to get to the point. We are developing our policies on what is and is not acceptable. It's challenging and if anyone here believes you can run a message board that is viewed by 1000 plus people a day and allow absolutely anything to be posted on it -- that is naive. To think we will be perfect and only delete messages that clearly violate the law or some ethical consideration is also naive.
Can you say anything you want on a message board? No, you can't. We need the right balance and policy though.
