Using the argument that Scheifele only did well in the OHL because he was 2-3 years older than some of the players is stupid. That same argument could be used to explain why he is struggling in the NHL. He is a 20 year old playing against guys who are in a lot of cases 9-10 years older than him and who have been playing at that level for a long time. You cant judge a player based on 25 NHL games.
It can take some guys longer to adjust to the NHL game, Andrew Ladd didn't score more than 40 points until his 4th season in the league. Tyler Seguin scored 22 points in his rookie season, and was a healthy scratch multiple times. Scheifele may never develop into what people thought he would, but writing a player off after less than half of his first season is just idioted.

Not sure if I read it here or on another board, but somebody comp'd Scheif's development to that of Ryan Johansen, and I actually really like that comparison. www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=122175Some time in St. John's would likely serve him well. But if he plays big minutes down there and doesn't produce offensively, then I'd say it's time to start wondering. But not yet.

I'm giving my opinion, call me back when he proves me wrong and I'll be happy to eat crow, I just don't see him panning out!

tonight Connor Hellebuyck set a school record for most shutouts (in way less games) and is leading his team to the hockey east finals. Hockey east is no joke of a conference either. Iv seen the kid play on tv and in person...outstanding prospect. Go Riverhawks.

2 Seasons, 11 Shutouts in 50 games and a save percentage in the .940-.950 range is very impressive at any level.

He is legit. Dont let your CHL bias get to you because the NCAA produces goalies (quick was hockey east). He need 2 more years though, you shouldnt rush goalies before age 23 ish and thats why i think college is a better route for a goalie. Get proper seasoning and dont have to rush into the AHL. IMO TheNHL needs to tighten up the ECHL because 20 years odl for many prospects who can develop is to young for the ahl and they need an extra year.
Hellebuyck plays against great competition in hockey east (Hockey east is the following teams, Boston College, Boston University, Vermont, Maine, Notre Dame, Merrimack, Massachusetts, Massachusetts lowell, providence, northeastern, new hampshire, Uconn). Johnny Gaudreau is a quality scorer you canadians should remember him from the world juniors last year.
