Why would anyone be incredulous? Sure, the centre of the universe might act that way. But its simple economics. Top ticket prices + sold out every night = revenue. These clowns think a 20,000 seat arena that sells 10,000 tickets a night is better than a 15,000 seat arena that is sold out. They really are rubber room math kids.

I had heard Winnipeg was Number 5 on the list . i would like to see some numbers other then what Mc Clown said. They grab numbers out of thin air sometimes.

Does this include merchandise revenue from the Jets Store? If so, then I would expect it to taper off a bit over the next couple of years.
Regardless, this is awesome! Now we just gotta stay in the top 10 for 5 years from now to really give it to the haters and doubters.

I had an argument tonight with a couple of Canucks fans (I live in Van) and they were laughing at the fact that the MTS Centre holds 15 004 and that they wouldn't have enough revenue, etc. I don't know why I bothered to argue with them. They are elitist Vancouverites - just wait until their team has some lean years again. We'll see if they sell out every night. Jets fans rule.

One interesting explanation for high concession sales (thought up by lil' ol' me) is due to such a high number of season tickets being split among several people. Think about it... if you didn't split your tickets and you go to every game (like my girlfriend and me), you tend to buy less of the very expensive drinks and food or you'd end up in the poor house. However, if you're going to a dozen games or less, each game is like a special outing... a real night out. You'll celebrate, get drunk and spend way more cash. It's an unintentional business model success.

It's an unintentional business model success. At the other end of the spectrum, the Jets aren't making as much money off of me as they should because of superstition. I have a unique and interesting streak going. Since the home opener, the Jets are undefeated at the MTS Centre when I'm there and NOT drinking any beer. I've turned down offers of free beer to keep this streak alive - I hope the organization appreciates my magnanimous, high-minded, and noble sacrifice. If I was throwing back the barley sandwiches like I do at Bomber games during a hot summer day the Jets would be 5th or 6th in league revenue. m.

Credit to jetsowner back in the day: I was a little peeved at how surprised they were that we were 10th in revenue.

Not just the TO peeps either. We all remember CJOB's Geoff Currier (and others) ridiculing callers when they suggested the NHL could be a success in Winnipeg. "Wont make any money" they said. "Wont sell high priced tickets in cheapskate Winnipeg" they said.

The real question is how long will it last? No one has that answer yet. I don't think anyone doubted the first years the building would be full. But to think a full building would not make money is another story. If you can't figure that out you should not be in radio talking about it!

The best part is, True North have an ingenius plan to keep the building full. The multi-year requirement was a stroke of genius, so too was having them expire at staggered end dates and keeping the multi-thousand person waiting list. They have created a scenario where there will always be demand, always be buzz and always be a sold out building for at least the next 15 years or so
