hockeybuzz.com (yeah I know...lol)
per Eklund
Well, we have our first rumor from the new regime and it's a very intriguing one. It comes from 3 sources, 1 close to the scene. Kane is a Restricted Free Agent, so the Jets and Canadiens would likely work out a trade I am told. "This is not an instance where an offer sheet is made. However Montreal could offer sheet a defenseman as well."
Another source, "This is not the first time I have heard Kane's name mentioned. The Bruins tried at the deadline and put together quite the package."
****Intrigued by this Boston rumour especially with all the issues swirling around Kane at the time.
I say dont do it. But is Montreal's 3rd over-all enticing enough to the Jets (and lets consider whether contract negotiations are going well or not)?

I hope we don't get rid of Kane. He could definitely be a big cornerstone of this franchise moving forward.
Not many players on MTL that I could see us wanting. Boston on the other hand.... Seguin for Kane?

Ekland is to "sports" writing as Sunnocks is to "business" writing both are full of it, 95% of the time.

I've only witnessed Eklund to be right once in his career and it was the Byfuglien to Atlanta trade.
But 99.9% of the time he just puts names in a hat and teams in another and picks two out to come up with a faux rumor.

If it's for the betterment of the team, I'd say move anyone necessary.
Fan favourite or not!

Whether Eklund is right or not or not important. Its a good topic and lets assume there is interest on Montreal's part.
is their first round pick enough?
And Boston would not have traded Sequin. That would likely have defeated the purpose of trading for Kane.

No Montreal's 3rd overall pick isn't enough. We're throwing away a 20 year old 30 goal scorer for anything less than a 1st overall + is absolutely ridiculous. Remember what the Leafs paid out for Kessel?? I'd want that for Kane. Habs would have to give us 1st round pick plus Pacioretty which i doubt they'd go for so then I would say 1st round pick plus Eller plus Subban. Why you'd let go of a 20 year old 30 goal scorer is beyond me. The price better be steep.
