I clearly said I was not supportive of it. Im merely presenting a topical column for discussion purposes. Yikes. If the deal works for the Jets, how could you not support it? I don't see any name being thrown around in this rumour.

The only player I would be interested in Montreal is Max Pacioretty.

Why trade a 21 year old 30 goal scorer? That would be extremely dumb. No thanks. Even Staal is not nearly enough in return.

The Jets will not and should not trade Evander Kane. End of story. The jets will absolutely trade Kane if it makes the team better. And they absolutely should trade him if its best for the team.

I would trade anyone given the right price. Keep in mind that as a 21 year old Kane is valued higher, hence greater return. I think he will have a better year next year if for no other reason than the injury shortening this years stats. Winnipeg should be very active this next year looking to mold this team into the future vision. There are plenty of examples that we could replace to get more coachability, 2way skills, size, leadership. All things you find on winning teams and things where we are weak.

I think the X factor here is whether Kane wants to be here. His talent and potential are not in question. 30 goals at age 21? Is 50 goals out of the question at some point? He could be a top player in the league and he's a few years away from Free Agency. He has huge value to the Jets.
I think if we were a "win now" team, it becomes more interesting to trade the kid for the pieces to put us over the top. But Kane is exactly the type of player who's growth will mirror the growth of the team as a whole.
However, if Kane signs a one year deal, we know something is up. In fact, I cant imagine the Jets even entertaining a short term deal.
If its true the Bruins offered a substantial package for him at the deadline, given the issues and whatnot surrounded Kane this year and the Jets declined, it tells me they want him here. We'll find out this summer. A 5 year deal will make me feel a lot better.
I think the Jets would be more involved in talks with teams who require defensive help. Would the Pens part with Staal for Enstrom +? Keeping in mind Staal is UFA next summer, his value goes down a little bit.

hockeybuzz.com (yeah I know...lol) per Eklund Well, we have our first rumor from the new regime and it's a very intriguing one. It comes from 3 sources, 1 close to the scene. Kane is a Restricted Free Agent, so the Jets and Canadiens would likely work out a trade I am told. "This is not an instance where an offer sheet is made. However Montreal could offer sheet a defenseman as well." Another source, "This is not the first time I have heard Kane's name mentioned. The Bruins tried at the deadline and put together quite the package." ****Intrigued by this Boston rumour especially with all the issues swirling around Kane at the time.I say dont do it. But is Montreal's 3rd over-all enticing enough to the Jets (and lets consider whether contract negotiations are going well or not)? Was probably intriguing to the jets too until all of the swirling issues turned out to be false. At that point they probably said thanks but no thanks. In the end he turns out to be a 30 goal scorer for the Jets. Hard to give that up when the kid is only very early 20's.

What had the Bruins offered for Kane?!? That's the million-dollar question. However, it comes from Eklund, so maybe it's BS.

Honestly, I can't think of anything the Habs have that the Jets might want.

Me either. They would have to give up Price, Subban or a package including their first pick to land Kane. That is a hefty price to pay.
