Nothing wrong with this. Good insurance for the inevitable injuries.

An 8th defenseman and subject to waivers.
Wonder if anyone would actually try to claim him.

I thought he got better the more he played. I like the signing and think he could easily fit in the 5-6 position. Whose better than him: Postma? Clitsome? Pardy?

Clitsome's making over $2M so while he's healthy there's no way in hell he's not playing. I suppose the 6th spot is up for grabs but I'd toss Morrissey in that hat too. He can't play in the AHL but he'll definitely get the 9-game tryout. If he looks good there's literally zero point in sending him back to Prince Albert.

Tough time for Keaton on the family side: Ellerby overwhelmed by support from hockey community after family tragedy
It’s been an emotional few weeks for Keaton Ellerby.
Ellerby’s uncle Alvin Liknes, his wife, Kathryn, and their five-year-old grandson Nathan O’Brien, are still missing in Alberta and presumed dead — though no bodies have been discovered — after the mysterious disappearance of the trio on June 30.
Douglas Garland has been arrested by Calgary police and faces three counts of murder.
“There’s not really any words that you can put to it,” said Ellerby, who was re-signed to a one-year, two-way deal by the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday. “You watch that stuff on TV and you never think it would happen to your immediate family. It’s still going on. My dad’s side of the family is definitely shaken up about it. It’s not an easy thing to go through.
“You’ve got to stay strong as a family and just hope and pray it comes to an end and you get a little bit of closure.”
Ellerby and his family have been overwhelmed by the support from the hockey community and folks in Manitoba as well.
“There’s been a lot of support from guys that I know and even from people in the city of Winnipeg. I’ve gotten a lot of messages and stuff like that, saying ‘we’re thinking of you and praying for your family,’” said Ellerby. “It’s definitely been a nice little support system there. I’m very thankful to those people who have reached out.”www.winnipegsun.com/2014/07/24/ellerby-overwhelmed-by-support-from-hockey-community-after-family-tragedym.

Trade Clitsome for another cheaper body or draft picks. The only time he's looked decent was when he was with Buff on D. That's not going to happen.

The Clitsome contract remains one of the most perplexing ones I've ever seen. Ellerby definitely has lapses or concentration of intensity maybe, but has way more upside than Clitsome IMO...better skater, better passer, better defensively.
Mention of Postma...very talented player who I expect to have a better season this year than Bogo (which is probably not saying much, but on this team it is.) Last season I thought he came back from the blood clot with a more intense edge to his game. He should be d-man anchoring the PP.

^ you think Postma will have a better season than Bogosian?? really???....listen, Bogo didnt have a very good year at all last year, but no way will Postma get ahead of Bogosian on the depth chart. no way. your thinking has perplexed me many times Ric, but this one takes the cake!

One doesn't need to be ahead of another on the depth chart to have a better season.

I'm assuming we'd have to retain half of it.

I'm not sure Postma would replace Bogo as they’re different types of defenseman but Postma should easily replace Clitsome. I'm a fan of Chevy but Clitsome was a bad deal.

What can I say, Bogo's been such a huge disappointment to me, and I think Postma's just finding his stride. Two players going in the opposite direction from what I can tell.
