Sorry if this has been posted before, but what's the deal with NHL games like tonight's EDM-MIN game being blacked out on Sportsnet? Is this only on Shaw, or MTS as well?

Winnipeg is no longer in that region now that we have a team so all local games to that region will be blacked out in winnipeg. The sports et oilers broadcasts are equivalent to the tsn jets channel. That channel is blacked out outside the Winnipeg region.
The oilers game was available via NHL centre ice

So why was there nothing else on that channel? We're paying for it.

So why was there nothing else on that channel? We're paying for it. because they knew that everyone in the winnipeg region would be watching TSN and the Jets game. ;D

Yeah, well, other TV shows are still on. It'd be nice to switch to something during commercials or intermission.

Or, remove the station and quit charging me.

It's simple...the Jets own the territory now...it's no longer shared by the Oilers and Flames...
remove the entire channel because they don't show some hockey games? why?

Well, because, for example, when Bomber games are blacked out on TSN, they at least show SOMETHING. We're paying for the station, would it kill them to put something on it?

I have Shaw and it was not blacked out for me. It was on both Sportsnet and Centre Ice.

Honestly, though, other than showing MLB or NFL games that are also available on other networks, the Flames and Oilers games are the only things I can think of that are worthwhile on that station. MAYBE the odd soccer game, but I may as well get Sportsnet World if that's so much of concern. Other than being a farm team for TSN talent, I don't see what the value is for that station anymore.

If you have HD then you had the Oilers vs Wild on last night on Sportsnet West. If you went to the digital channel a black screen.

I noticed blackouts as well on MTS and was wondering about that. I don't know if it's a promo or not but Center Ice has been free to watch for about a week now on MTS

Yep, there's no getting around it this is just how NHL regional deals work. They could show something, but seriously it makes no difference. When Bomber games were blacked out we usually got like bowling or something stupid... anything they could put on would just suck and not be worth watching. If you had sportsnet just for the Oilers/Flames then I would stop paying for it. If you watch the occasional Jays game (or basketball but who the F watches that?!) then it's still probably worth keeping, but you will never again see an Oilers or Flames game on Sportsnet.
