Another 3 points for Scheif!!! Telegin with 2 goals (5 in his last 2 games)
The Barrie Colts (12-8-2-1) made their only visit of the season to the RBC Centre in Sarnia Thursday night to take on the Sting (15-4-1-4).
The Colts needed a shoot-out to dispose of the Sting by a score of 4-3 as Barrie wins their fourth consecutive game.
Mark Scheifele and Nail Yakupov led their respective clubs with three-point nights each, while both tallied in the shoot-out.
Yakupov was the only Sting player to beat Mathias Niederberger in the shoot-out as he denied Craig Hottot and Brett Thompson. Colin Behenna scored the shoot-out winner for the Colts.
Ivan Telegin continued his hot-streak with a pair of goals; he now has five in his last two games and has scored in three straight contests.
The Colts out-shot Sarnia in every period and finished with a game total of 38. Brandon Maxwell takes the loss for the Sting, while Niederberger wins his fourth straight.
Sarnia came in to this contest with just four regulation losses but have dropped to second in their division behind the red-hot Plymouth Whalers.
The Sting have now won just three of their last seven games.
Sarnia took a 1-0 first period lead on a one-handed Yakupov shot that beat the Barrie tender top shelf on the power play.
The Colts scored twice in the second period and held a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes. Steven Beyers found Scheifele down-low on the power play who then went cross-crease for the Telegin tap-in.
Then it was Tanner Pearson setting up Scheifele on a short-handed breakaway and the big center made no mistake beating Maxwell.
Telegin`s second of the game came in the third period to give Barrie a two-goal cushion that they would eventually give up. Scheifele and Buonomo set up Telegin`s 8th of the year on a great dangle by Scheifele.
Yakupov and Alex Basso scored in the third for the Sting to send it to overtime.
Tonight`s game featured five of the top-eight point-getters in the league, led by Barrie`s Tanner Pearson who has 18 goals and 34 assists for 52 points, six ahead of Sarnia`s Nail Yakupov.
Colin Behenna has 41 points, Charles Sarault has 37 and Zach Hall has 33. Sarault had his eleven game point-streak snapped.
The Colts will take their winning streak to London for a date with the Knights on Friday night.
Earlier in the day the Colts acquired forward Daniel Erlich who is expected to make his Barrie debut on Friday.
