Offseason is a little slow, to keep it fresh here, and since I'm a Sabres fan first, lets revisit...
Buffalo Sabres Get:
Dale Hawerchuk
Winnipeg's 1st round choice (Brad May)
Winnipeg Jets get:
Phil Housley
Scott Arniel
Jeff Parker
Buffalo's 1st round choice (Keith Tkachuk)
Without knowing who the picks are, would you pull that trade again ? Housley was dynamic, but I remember here he signified the playoff failures of the 80's in Buffalo right or wrong, and was shipped out. Looking at the stats, Housley had his best seasons statistically with Winnipeg following the trade.
Hawerchuk was in a different situation in Buffalo as he went from being "the man" in Winnipeg to kind of a second fiddle with Pat Lafontaine (and Alex Mogilny) in the spotlight. Dale had some great seasons in Buffalo as well, and the Sabres finally got out of the 1st round against Boston, sweeping the Bruins in 92-93 (Mayday goal). Hawerchuk was a big part of that team.
Personally, I still have a great poster of Dale Hawerchuk in a frame in my basement. At the County Fair here in Buffalo, the Sabres that year set up a stand and anyone making a purchase got a free Mogilny or Hawerchuk poster. Mogilny was sold out, so I gladly took the Hawerchuk one. Still have it to this day.
