Calgary just announced that they are not allowing public events through to end of August. So that eliminates Calgary Stampeder home games to Sept 1st subject to review. Oh Boy this will stress the CFL and Randy Ambosie's coronaries. Let's be frank. There is zero chance of the CFL or NHL playing in front of fans next season. They will either make do playing in front of empty arenas, or not playing at all. The 2019-20 season is over. The NHL has not announced it yet, but let's keep it real. The season is done as dinner.

The CFL has asked the Canadian government for up to $150 million in support. The commissioner didnt say the league would fold if they dont get the money but he was pretty grim in his analysis saying it would be a devastating blow to the league.

The CFL, according to local news, is asking for support rather than a loan. The subtleties escaped me until a featured sports economist said a loan would allow the league to use as needed. A grant would be directed but without familiar repayment terms and possibly leave the Feds on the hook. As Arte Johnson said "Verrry Interesting". In a similar vein my daughter is affiliated with a triathlon club. They will have lost 100-200K in fees and fundraising in an organization that is a nonprofit. They will likely go under. This will be survival of the fittest, professional sports included.

So as a CFL SEASON Ticket holder I received the following...
I hope this letter finds you and your loved ones safe and healthy. If you are one of the thousands of essential workers putting yourself at risk for the rest of us, thank you. If you are simply doing your part to fight this pandemic and following the rules as they come, thank you for that as well.
Most of all, thank you for supporting the CFL, and your team, by purchasing season seats. You and fans like you are the lifeblood of the Canadian Football League. We are deeply grateful for your commitment to us.
We want you to know we are committed to you and to the future of the CFL – and to building an even bigger and brighter future for Canadian football, together.
Right now, like you, we’re trying to cope with the fact that Covid-19 has literally
created a world of uncertainty.
We are following the news, listening to public health experts, and monitoring the latest from our political leaders, for signs that life will start to return to normal and, when and if the time is right, we can safely get back to football and back to gathering together in our stadiums.
Like you, we’re doing all we can to weather this storm. We’re optimistic and we’re looking forward. We remain hopeful we’ll have a great season in 2020. But this pandemic is forcing us to also consider all the other possibilities, including the ones we hate to consider, such as fewer games this year or even a cancelled season, if that is what we have to do to help keep Canada safe and healthy.
You may have seen in the media that we have reached out to the federal government. We’ve told them we may need help, especially if these worst-case scenarios come to pass. We have stressed we want to be accountable to you and all taxpayers, and that we would want to repay them using all of the tools at our disposal, including advertising in our stadiums and online, programs in the community in support of a wide range of important causes, tourism promotion around our games and Grey Cup, and through content and digital partnerships.
You’ve already helped us by investing in season seats. Your support, patience and understanding through this challenging time helps us even more. I can’t thank you enough.
I wish I could return your loyalty by telling you how all of this will turn out, when our games will start and exactly what our season will look like. Unfortunately, all we can do right now is be as transparent as possible, to tell you we are working through all the possibilities, and to be as deeply grateful to you as you clearly deserve.
Whatever you are going through, at work or home or in your family, I want you to know we consider you an important part of our CFL family. If you have lost a loved one, or you are coping with the effect this virus can have on anyone’s physical, mental or financial health, please know we are thinking of you.
I know we’re going to get through this together. And when we do, it’s going to be a great day for Canada. We’ll celebrate football, friendship and our resilience. And more than anything else, when we see you again at the game, we’re going to celebrate you.
Thank you so much,
Signed Randy Ambrosie

Latest Ambrosie update and frank discussion. www.cbc.ca/sports/football/cfl/cfl-randy-ambrosie-house-of-commons-testimony-1.5560467A real disappointment if it comes to this. I have been with the CFL as junior Bomber in 1962, met Bud Grant and those early 60s team members, althrough the 70s and 80s they were a big part of my sports entertainment now I am a CFL season ticket holder. The league has changed immensely over the years and suffered a fall off in fan support. Much of the younger potential CFL fans compare and contrast the Canadian game to the NFL. Having Ambrosie going to the government cap in hand will further the inferiority image the CFL can ill afford. A sad state of affairs for the CFL.

According to TSN it dosent look like the CFL will.be getting any money from the government. Looks like there will be tough decisions coming from the league this year.

Just a guess but I would think that 2020 is a wrap. I read that one US player said he would not travel, isolate wherever in Canada and play a shortened season with a high rate of injury and leave friends and family behind for $22K USD. For that kind of change there really isn't a lot of upside for an international athlete. So sad....

Next year's program is also in question if you ask me for my opinion. Blue Bombers are CFL champs for another year.

Any thoughts to training camp fellows? Could be interesting if Harris is out for any length.

Turned out the Bombers didn't need Harris nor do they need a heroic Collaros. He just needs to "manage" the game. The Defence drives this machine and boy they are good. Can't see them losing unless Collaros goes down. But cold weather can be an equalizer.

Yeah I've really been loving Bombers games this year, well last year too. I know they spent a good many years in the east but have not taken 1st in the West since 72? That's incredible, still can barely believe that's true. Always waiting for the bubble to burst but our offense is pretty good, can score when they need to. Half the special teams are great, other half are improving. And that defense, as they say, historically great! Go Bombers!

Ric O you need to change the banner to 2019 and 21 champions!Consecutive too. A mathematical anomaly thanks to Covid and great play. Way to go Bombers!

^ Done. What an amazing game. When they were down 12 I felt they were still going to come back, but had my doubts when Cats were marching on the last drive in the 4th...what a defensive play by Nichols...play of the game!

So we are well into the CFL season and some trends are emerging (1) Bombers are class of the league (2) the East is Least again (3) CFL attendance is in a funk only averaging 21K. Numbers are down it seems at least by bums in the seat count on TV. This is a real existential moment/year for the league. Even the Riders are suffering at the gate. There are a few obvious reasons, but whatever they are, this sucks for a league that has a long storied history
