I can't wait for the Nords return, either! I love the irony that the bill's name is "bill 204" - as in Manitoba's area code!!!! ;D

On an interesting side note, the return of the Nordiques movement has another supporter: Jack Edwards! The super Bruin homer for once shows respect to a non-Boston fan base! ;D

That game shocked me because they announced a sellout of 17625 and for the entire game about half of the seats were empty...

Also this bruins commentator will be happy: Nordiques Nation is coming to Boston soon.

I saw on HFboards alot of Bruins fans are excited for the arrival of Nordiques Nation in TD Garden, their allies against the "evil empire" of Le Hab!

Hartford could happen. If they get an owner who is willing to pay for a new arena by himself, or with little public money involved, they could get a team back. I don't think the economy will be a huge factor, because Hartford has about 2 million people and the NHL will be the only game in town. I would love to see the Whalers back! Tonight on the NHL Center Ice package instead of Carolina the listing says "Hartford at St. Louis". Strange that this kind of an error would be made all these years later. If only...

I wazsn't at the game but from what I saw midway through the first and 2nd periods it looked mostly full. By the end a lot of people had left.

Bad News www.montrealgazette.com/sports/Quebec+City+arena+deal+faces+court+challenge/5603831/story.htmlTwo people, including a former provincial minister, have filed notice in Quebec Superior Court that they will challenge the constitutionality of a bill that would shield a contract — reached between the mayor of Quebec City and Quebecor Media Inc. on management of a new hockey arena — from legal challenges. Bill 204 won support in Quebec City, where hockey fans yearning for the departed Nordiques saw it as the key to bringing back a National Hockey League team. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has said a new arena would be needed for a new team, but there are no plans to add a new club or transfer an existing franchise. Denis de Belleval, a former Parti Quebecois minister in the government of former premier Rene Levesque, said Bill 204 strips him of his rights to challenge the contract with Quebecor, to which he objects because it was negotiated, rather than awarded after a competitive bidding process. He filed the notice along with entrepreneur Alain Miville de Chene. He argues it is contrary to both the federal and Quebec charters of rights to block his previous court challenge of the contract. De Belleval argues the agreement is a sweetheart deal for Quebecor, which owns Quebec's leading television network, TVA, the Journal de Montreal and the Journal de Quebec, plus scores of regional weeklies and the Videotron Ltd. cable company. He said he does not think Quebecor will be paying enough in its 25-year contract, which can be extended another 15 years, and that Quebec City taxpayers will be stuck with extra costs. The province is putting up $200 million for the $400-million project; the city and hockey fans, who have paid $5,000 for seats in the new arena, would make up the remaining amount. De Belleval predicted there will be cost overruns, but they will be hidden. "Creative accounting — it exists," he told reporters Tuesday.

Lots of people in Quebec city are convinced DeBellval is secretely trying to do everything to prevent Quebec from getting a NHL team back because he despises NHL millionaire players with a passion. In the past he even claimed the return of the Nordiques would hurt the economy because people would go less to shows, theaters, restaurants and shopping.
DeBellval also hates Quebecor and Labeaume with a passion and some people think he's getting help from Bell for his crusade. Bell was interested in an arena deal too in the past (possibly to prevent the Nordiques return, as they partially own the Montreal Canadiens and would lose a market share), but did not submit their offer in time or something like that.
Maybe I'm wrong, but it seemed weird that one or two person that have nothing to do with politics anymore seems to be dedicated this much to make the entire project fall apart. I bet the government would put $1 billion into a place for shows and culture and give all profits to a company other than Quebecor and DeBellval wouldn't even mind, but just because it's NHL or Quebecor, he does.
