Had hoped Scheifele would have had a better showing this tournament I was hoping for more, he was pretty much invisible for the most part. He wasn't used much. A mistake I think.

The hockey gods just weren't on their side. The first 3 Russian goals were deflections off Canadian defense men and Canada hits 4 posts pretty much sums it up. Even if the Russians hadn't scored those first three goals Canada would have been far behind by the time they were able to solve Russia's goaltending. Fact is Canada could have been in a position to come back from 2 down instead of 5 if they had kept their cool and avoided pointless penalties. That speaks to coaching leadership and team play.

No not a mistake at all, he was out muscled in the corners, and looked pretty average in this group of players. Average in this group is not an insult, but again is not good enough to receive important minutes in a desperation game. Time will tell with him but personally I don't expect to see him as a Jet next year, he still has a ways to go and if he does not get physically stronger he will not make it in this league.

I like Scheifele, but this tournament needs to be viewed by him as a new "shot across the bow" and a new challenge. As much as he improved over the last 2 years (by all accounts), he needs to achieve a similar improvement from where he is today, against this level of competition. Whatever that improvement requires, that's what Mark Scheifele has to do. Whether it is skating or physical development, he needs to accomplish that further development. Clearly he has the hockey sense, which is essential. But just as clearly, when he is playing at the highest levels (NHL regular season and WJ), he needs to develop that higher level of performance.
Troy Westwood said this morning (on 1290, in discussion with Randy Turner) that maybe Scheifele needs to develop a "Hawerchuck-like" tenacity at that high level of play. Turner pointed out that Scheifele has only had one full year of junior A in his experience, and was really still "wet cement" - i.e. early in his development and experience still.
Tim, I agree - I think these things show that Mark has some things to work on before he is ready for the next level of competition. Clearly he has potential, but he needs to take it to another level.
Go Mark! Make it so!

Like most, I was disappointed in Scheifele's play.
Clearly, the Jets did the right thing sending him back to junior this past fall.
He's still very young and I beleive he will get better.
Hopefully, this will serve as motivation for him.

He was all over the Russians in the 3rd and helped us claw back within one. I didn't see him as exceptional in this tournament but that goes for most of the players on team Canada this year. I think we'll be seeing him in a Jets jersey next year. His play in the the OHL is very solid and I think he'll run with the job next year.

Is it safe to say Telegin is pretty injury prone? He missed the entire tournament last year with an injury and didn't play lastnight due to injury.

You don't bring in a first round draft pick to play on the third or fourth line. He needs more time maybe next year he starts the year on the farm, that would be the big eye opener for him, then again another year at junior would also be beneficial.
