www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/hockey/jets/he-just-cant-wait-127574703.htmlGood interview and I was pleased with everything Andrew Ladd had to say. He answered the following question: "There's been talk that some of your teammates already want to be traded and aren't excited about the prospect of playing in Winnipeg. Any thoughts?" with: "I haven't heard that, but if there are guys that don't want to be in Winnipeg then we don't want them anyway. We want people that want to be part of a good hockey organization that's going to create a winning culture. From everyone I've talked to -- I haven't heard any of that." Great response! I have a lot of respect for Mr. Ladd and the position he's taking. Having said that; why can't Winnipeg journalists learn to let sleeping dogs lie? That is; why continually bring up that old chestnut? If players want out, they should and will be moved out. (As Mr. Ladd says in this interview.) So far, only McCown has said such an issue even exists. By continually bringing up that topic, aren't Winnipeg sports journalists making the issue into a real concern when apparently it ISN'T to any of the players? Certainly no player has said anything publicly. Why make a mountain out of a molehill solely on the sayso of Eastern sports guys?

I read somewhere else that the guy who claimed recently that he knows for a fact that 3 guys want to be traded from the Jets is a sports reporter from Toronto (can't remember his name). I wouldn't put too much faith in that report.
Honestly, it sounds to me like Lawless was either trying to get Ladd to 'fess up as to who on the team wants to leave, or to beg for reassurance about how any hockey player would just love to come to Winnipeg. If the first, Ladd is not the kind of guy who would tell on his teammates, and if the second, it comes off as insecurity.
It the Thrashers had been sold to any other city in the US, there still might be some players who would want to leave because of other reasons other than because they hate that particular location. No hockey team is universally beloved by every single hockey player.
For people to keep harping on the idea that players might not want to come to Winnipeg and needing constant reassurance that Ladd and the current Jets players' don't dislike it here is just showing our own insecurities of how we measure up to other cities.

^ I asked Lawless on twitter if he could stop doing this kind of thing. I.E., asking players if they really want to play in Winnipeg as if there is some kind of issue. I told him you are creating a perception just by asking the question....this was back at the time Ladd came to town to look around before he signed...Lawless agreed with me but implied it was a kind of one off thing, but now he's up to it again...do you think the media in most NHL cities asks players, "do you really want to be here..." sheesh...hope this doesn't become a practice every time a new player comes to town...

I agree and disagree. It does come off as a bit too negative for my liking quite often, but I think after most trades players are asked "so are you excited to be on this _______ team?" It happens more than you realize, I think we're just noticing it a lot more. It even happens in negative terms quite often, with people saying "So are you excited to be in ______? How do you think you'll handle the pressure from the media being in a Canadian city?" I don't know, like I say it has come off as a bit negative and like we're looking for reassurance, but I think if you watched interviews after player trades, probably 7-9 out of 10 would get asked something in regards to what they think of their new team.

I agree that these questions should stop but it is really only Lawless that are asking those type of questions. He is trying to make the players talk about how wonderful Winnipeg is while most of them have never been here.
However, I think this type of "negative attention" is comparable to the people who keep whining about the Jets history and trying to tell True North to honour the history and somehow make it their number one priority. Sorry, off topic but I think it is equally annoying.

Our sports media guys have really only been following the CFL and AHL for the last 15 years. When the NHL comes to town most of them have never interviewed a guy who's making 5 million a year. In a sense.... they're rookies when dealing with a major sports league. I hope that they can learn quickly and not look like a bunch of inexperienced rookies when dealing with star players.
If you think about it these guys are fans just like us. I just hope that they look like they belong when the big show comes to town.

Wow I can't believe I didn't see this yesterday. That was fun to read. Its always nice to hear from the players. I am sure at some point I will grow tired of it, but its all so fresh and new. Good on Ladd for his responses. Nobody is telling him they want out, hes the captain, have a listen toronto media.

If I was McCowan, I would be asking that question to Leafs players. Look at how quickly the fans turned on Phaneuf when people in TO realized he wasn't the superstar defenseman he was made out to be by the Toronto media.

Lawless is THE most overrated sports guy in Winnipeg. 1 out of every 10 article is ok.....and his radio show is pathetic, he is horrible at live interviews. I implied that he should stop last night on twitter as well.....all we have to do is ignore this crap and its a NON STORY!! DONE

We should buy Lawless a ticket to Toronto on a slow donkey cart........someone should remind him he makes a living off of Winnipeg sports teams and their fans so why does he insist on running them all into the ground every chance he gets.........the only one not wanting to live in WPG might be Lawless himself!
