I don't know. I don't find this coincidence all that interesting. Was Rypien even ever officially a member of the Winnipeg Jets? He was signed to play the upcoming season. I'm not sure of the exact rules. Just another technicality. He became a Jet as soon as he was signed - listed as a Jet by the NHL.com It's an eerie coincidence. I highly doubt 37 will ever be worn in the Peg (I doubt he would have worn that number this year anyway because of Snyder).

He was officially employed with the Jets as of the time of his signing, although the players don't get paid until after the season starts. Not that any of this matters now...

I might be way off base, but perhaps retire the number with a simple black banner to represent that tragedy of both clubs (Jets and Thrashers)

When I saw a pic of Rick in the #37,I thought of Snyder right away and Then Richard Harris.Rick may never have played a game for the Jets, but he was a member with the TN for a long time. Odd that a football and hockey club in the same city would lose one of it's members within weeks of each other.

At the very least they can take it out of circulation - two players in this franchise now with that number have died tragically. Leave it on the shelf.

I don't agree its just a number because it has some meaning behind it. There are a lot of numbers in sport that are not just numbers. I don't think it has to be retired or anything, but some kind of tribute could be put somewhere in the building about what happened.

I think some sort of banner remembering both players would be a great touch, and I would seriously doubt that any other player would even consider wearing 37.
