Ray Miron, (the moron who Don Cherry worked for in Colorado,) Gord Stelleck and John Ferguson Jr. called to say Mike Smith sucked.

When Smith traded Hawerchuk he told him if he was GM he would have drafted Bobby Carpenter instead of Ducky.

When Smith traded Hawerchuk he told him if he was GM he would have drafted Bobby Carpenter instead of Ducky. Precisely the reason Smith will never work again in the NHL GM John Ferguson. Not one of Fergie's better moves...

That is what I love about the Jets new ownership. TNSE seems to have all the patience in the world, which will pay off in the long run. The old version of the Jets did not have this, and were obsessed with defeating the Oilers. As a result, Fergie jumped the gun on a number of trade. It may be the reason the jets were always having one good season followed by a mediocre one. I would've liked to have seen that 84' team play. They were on fire that year.

He was definitely the worst Jets GM. Worst in the NHL? Who knows.

Hard to argue with the statement posted. But in Mike Smith's defence, he did draft Keith Tkachuk, Nikolai Khabibulin, Kris Draper, Aaron Ward, and Stu Barnes. So he wasn't a complete tool

^ Yes. He was traded to Florida by Mike Smith for Randy Gilhen (who was originally traded in '89 from the Jets by Mike Smith) So Smith tried to fix the mistake of trading Gilhen by re-aquiring him by trading Stu Barnes. Interesting...

Interesting... As much as I like Gilhen, that was truly a brutal trade. Smith was on some really fine crack.

anyone know what biz Mike Smith is running into the ground these days? Who cares. As long as he stays far, far away from our current Jets. Is there a restaining order against him?

So he wasn't a complete tool Except he used the 4th overall pick on Stu Barnes only to have Bill Guerin taken next by NJD. Aaron ward was selected 5th in a very deep draft despite the fact Ward stated he wouldn't play for the Jets... oh yeah, and Forsberg was the next pick at 6th, Rolston at 11th, Kovalev at 15th, Naslund at 16th, Glen Murray at 18th, Ray Whitney at 23rd, Ozolinsh at 30th
