Just giving a shout out to the women today. They played awesome, but what a heartbreak. Also, it was one of the most intense and entertaining soccer games I've seen in a long time. I'm usually never one to complain about officiating, but it was Canada Vs. USA and the officials (not to take anything away from Team USA - they are a powerhouse).
Here's hopin' they win bronze and that a different ref is used in that game.

Both teams left it all out there on the pitch!
... and if it was left up to both teams to play the game, Canada would be playing for a gold medal. But, it is what it is.

The Canadian Women played their hearts out only to be defeated by horrid refereeing. Never should the outcome of such an important game be left to such poor officiating. It is time FIFA instituted video-replays.
Christine Sinclair is the type of athlete all athletes should aspire to. Good on her for her effort. What an inspiration...

If the men's game was played the way the women play it, I'd watch more soccer. Wide open and full of fast breaks.
The men's game needs to think about adapting it's game to add excitement, like the NHL has done a few times. I'm for a clock similar to basketball where the team must cross center by a certain time and once across center are on a shot clock-like time to play the ball into the box.

Crushing defeat and more than a little undeserved. Invoking an obscurely and almost never called rule and then awarding a pretty harsh penalty kick will have the conspiracy theorists raving, but smacks more of incompetence.
Not to mention the utter sourness of US players while they were losing, notably Wambach and Rapinoe. Those two aside there is one thing that I like about the women's game more than the men's. And that's the way they pick themselves up after tackles and get on with it instead of moaning and writhing around until the trainer comes with the magic spray. Winnipeg's own Desiree Scott played on after a tackle of hers that I was convinced had hyper-extended her knee. Those girls are tough. And Sinclair is surely the best striker to ever grace the women's game. Yes, better than Wambach and better than Mia Hamm. The latter played in an era in which there was little challenge to the US powerhouse and the former is bolstered by playing in the US team. Sinclair has not always been surrounded by the strongest supporting cast, allowing her to be targeted by the opposition and she still is tied for second-most career goals, on a team that is rarely ranked in the top ten in the world. Good for you Christine Sinclair!

Good for you Christine Sinclair! Couldn't agree more. And yes, women's soccer is much better than mens. Maybe in part because Canada's actually half decent at it, so I have something to root for but plus... it's a women's game!

If there are any suspensions in the bronze medal game it will just prove corruption in my mind. Two very questionable calls back to back that lead to a goal? Either corruption or total incompetency. No excuse for either.

Hopefully Canada makes a complaint and the Olympic Committe has a review on the officiating of the game. That's all we can hope for at this point.

I don't think that they deserve any suspensions and it looks like none are forthcoming. That said no one should be surprised that an investigation occurred. It's not like every other league allows you to openly bring the integrity of the game into disrepute by questioning the referees. No league allows that. Not saying I don't agree with the Canadian players - I do - but FIFA is hardly alone in looking at that negatively.

I constantly moan about soccer during Euro and World Cup time.... but this game truly blew me away!!! Muuuuuuuuuuuuuch more exciting than I ever would have expected.
Brutal officiating, it should have been Canada in the final, but what a game for the ages!

Good on the team for putting it all behind them and getting bronze. I'm glad they didn't just sulk and fold. Way to go!
