We were like 12th in revenue this year I think we are good. In a couple decades when they build a new rink, maybe they will put more than 15,000 seats in that rink, who knows. In the meantime Winnipeg will never be a top 5 income team, but they will be profitable and sell out every season. I don't think they will ever build a new rink. They are just getting the ball rolling on the multi-multi million dollar SHED! project downtown. This project has the MTS Centre as the anchor for all other development that will be popping up over the next 3-5 yrs or so. ...In approximately 20+ years (give-or-take), they will eventually need to build a new one (and, in all likelihood, they will). A building rarely lasts "forever" (even MSG, Fenway, Wrigley, etc. have undergone hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars in renovations.... heck, the cost of renos at MSG were about 7 to 8 times the cost of building the MTS Centre). And during this time, TNSE will upgrade numerous things in the arena to keep things up to par. Whether that will eventually mean more boxes or seats is yet to be seen. Upgrades do not always come in the form of more seats. But upgrades in some shapes or forms will be needed; buildings DO need to be renovated here and there, or else they will be a piece of **** in the long-run.

Ignorant person: "MTS Centre is not NHL calibre! And it's too small!" - WE GET AN NHL TEAM -Ignorant person: "Well... how can you make it bigger...?" Seriously: Any MTS Centre "expansion" talk is a complete waste of time. But hey, proceed if you don't mind wasting your time. Ignorant person: "Seriously: Any MTS Centre "expansion" talk is a complete waste of time. But hey, proceed if you don't mind wasting your time." Seriously slippy, why do you care? If peeps wish to explore this who the blank are you to piss in their cornflakes? X2. Even if it won't happen in the foreseeable future -- if it's interesting to discuss the topic for some ppl -- I don't see the harm in this thread. And if you think it's such a waste of time, then don't click to read & post on this thread. No one is forcing you to. Even if it's completely hypothetical, I don't see what is so wrong with merely discussing it. It's not "ignorant" to simply discuss it. This thread did not say that it was "necessary" for the MTS Centre to expand, nor did it imply it. There was no mention of the latter when the thread started. I do agree that it won't happen in the foreseeable future, and that it's not necessary... I'm very aware of that. But there's no need to be so aggressive and pessimist about it. It's just an interesting discussion. If you don't have anything nice to post about it (and don't find it interesting), then don't post on it. Pretend the thread isn't here. Take it easssyy man. It's just a fun thread.

Finally someone to agree with. The MTSC sucks, 2/3 of the seats have an obstructed view, the width of the seats makes you feel so cramped you start fighting for the arm rest, not enough knee room, lobbies are too small, not enough washrooms, sound system is still bad, scoreboard still not HD, etc.etc. People who are happy with 15,000 don't seem to get it. We have a building that is 20% smaller than the average NHL building therefore we have to pay 20% more for the tickets just to keep even. Now if your pockets are that deep, good for you. I have been in 21 of the NHL arenas and and know people who have been in the ones I haven't and would rate ours 28th out of the 30 league wide, with only Long island and Edmonton behind us. I love my team and will continue to support them and re up my season tickets, but let's be honest with ourselves...our arena sucks.

66% of seats have obstructed views? That's the kind of math that CJOB used for years to deride the idea of the NHL returning to Winnipeg.
Seats are cramped. Agreed. The rest of your post is horse manure. Ticket prices would be 20% lower if there was another 3000 cheap seats in the rafters? That's the kind of math that CJOB used for years to deride the idea of the NHL returning to Winnipeg.
Scoreboard's not in HD? Lobby's too small? Sound system's bad? All true points. All irrelevant points. They also don't use pillowy soft Purex in the WC but I'm not there for the asswipe, I'm there for the hockey.

We all wish there was a little more room. 99% of us probably wish there were 2000 more seats, but that wouldn't change ticket prices. I don't care about the scoreboard at all... the sound system is good enough for me now, washrooms aren't bad in my area (section 315) but more stalls certainly wouldn't hurt. All the fluff I don't care about at all, no one would pretend we have the nicest arena in the league, but the $130 Million price tag made it feasible for us to build an NHL-ready arena before we had a team, so I'll live with it happily.

Guys who defend the arena do it for all the wrong reasons, this was done on a beer budget and in typical Winnipeg style.
