Will there be a lockout and, if so, how long will it last?

Yes there will be a lockout. Season should start between Dec. 13-19. Owners need a bit of time to get geared up for winter classic.

So:
We FINALLY get a team back- but we're placed in the southeast division. And year 2 of our team there will be a lockout-shortened season (at best). And we're STILL in the southeast division?!
Bettman, you owe us an All-Star Game, Heritage Classic or Draft (or all 3)- and soon!!!

Too early to tell at this point, the next week or two will really show how far apart the sides are and how serious they are about starting on time.

I'm thinking around mid december. which might help the Jets if you look at their schedule for November. Long road trip against good teams. If the season starts on time and the Jets suck in Nov. we could be out of the playoff race very early in the season. Maybe not out of it but, definitely in a hole

I think the first game of the season will be the Winter Classic on Jan. 1, 2013.

I hope they get this done before Sept 15th. I fear if they don't both sides will accept a lost season and harden their positions. History shows, for all unions, the longer it goes the less chance the members have of gaining anything, rather the opposite.

If the owners lose the winter classic this year, there will be no season.
