Does anyone have a copy of this on DVD or know where to get one? I would love to have this.

If such a thing exists, I'd love to get my hands on a copy too...

from what i was told about this. CKY did in fact televise this game, but when they moved from the old building by the Arena to their new digs downtown, they had tossed out a lot of old tapes. that jets game was among them. it is long gone now. of course, i cant see this as 100% true. i mean there must be a copy somewhere, a backup or something.

I know the game wasn't broadcast, CKY may have had a few cameras filming. The Jets approached the local stations to do a live broadcast but none agreed. I remember listening to that game with my brother on CJOB. I doubt there is a backup, we're talking a different era, probably would have been saved on a single 3/4 inch video tape and if that was discarded then nothing is left.

It looks like Donwood is correct. CKY had an Elvis special on. Ironically CBC was carrying Moscow Spartak @ St.Louis Blues that night. I do remember seeing a few scratchy highlights somewhere so there was at least one camera there.

I remember the 3 games played in Tokyo a few days earlier as well, the games started at 4 am Winnipeg time and i recall my brother and i setting the alarm for 4 and listening to the games in bed.

Second Period

Why would they do such a bizarre and foolish thing? They could have at least gave it to a charity auction, or sold it at eBay. Someone at CKY must have saw the significance in the old Jets tapes. Back in 1991-92, as a teenager, I personally phoned CKY-TV sports department, and inquired about old WHA Jets tapes, only to be told they were 'not for sale.'

That does seem crazy. I literally can not fathom how someone would not have seen the value in this tape, if it existed.
I got a copy of the Jets final WHA game against Gretzky's Oilers from a guy about 8 years ago. That thing is awesome.

That thing is awesome. if it was a complete broadcast with play by play etc. it probably would have been seen as valuable. Also back then it would have been just one of probably thousands of bulky tapes in storage. I can see how it might have been part of a lot of tapes destroyed or lost that were thought to have had little or no value. From the late 70's to the late 90's a lot changed in video and tv production. What did exist from that game was probably one camera following the play to pick up a few highlights. Even if the tape did exist it likely wouldn't be much to watch.

Let's also keep in mind it could easily be "reformatted" or whatever. I don't understand technology, but I thought with a bit of money put into it you can make the picture quality better, but most importantly you could easily just add some play by play / colour commentary to the tape and sell it. The 1972 Summit Series DVD sales were pretty high I believe. This certainly wouldn't be as big but I'm sure you could sell a fair few copies.

I'd watch it if it was available but you can't compare it to the summit series with the best broadcast standards of the day to likely one lone camera panning back and forth. Anybody a regular at Joe Daley's store? if anyone outside of CKY has a copy it would be Joe.

I didn't meant to compare the video quality, just the interest in paying for DVDs of that type of hockey/era.
