Promoters mum on whether McCartney to play Winnipeg
Paul McCartney Concert promoters Live Nation, the Winnipeg Football Club and True North Sports and Entertainment will hold a press conference Monday at 11 a.m. to announce "a major historical concert event" at Investors Group Field this summer. The name of the performer, the date or the time of the show will be revealed at the press conference, a press release said Friday. However, the Ottawa Citizen is reporting that Live Nation will announce in the nation’s capital this Monday that Paul McCartney is playing Scotiabank Place in early July. An early July date, like what’s expected to be announced in Ottawa on Monday, would work in Winnipeg. The Bombers open the 2013 regular season at home on June 27, but are then on the road in Montreal the following week and do not play again at home until July 13. McCartney is currently on a major world tour called Out There. He has tour dates booked at the end of June in Europe, but is touring again in North America in July. Live Nation’s Ian Low, Kevin Donnelly of True North and Winnipeg Blue Bombers president Garth Buchko will be at the Winnipeg announcement, which will be at Investors Group Field. Bombers spokesman Darren Cameron said Friday afternoon that the club had no comment when asked if McCartney is the act that will be announced Monday. The Bombers are counting on staging major concerts at the new stadium to help generate the revenue they need to make their annual $4.5 million mortgage payment. A McCartney show would be the second major concert at the stadium this summer. A June 22 Taylor Swift concert at Investors Group Field sold out in hours when tickets went on sale late last year. McCartney last played in Winnipeg on May 21, 1993 at Winnipeg Stadium.

Album sales were killed when file sharing started. Name me one current relevant act (not Teenybopper) that can put on a stadium show and sell it out. IMO the only groups/individuals that could sell out the stadium are AC/DC Stones McCartney Madonna Bieber Bon Jovi Taylor Swift Who else could??

U2 obviously but they just did... and that just goes more to your point. Probably several country stars as well, Kenny Chesney for sure. And as much as people love to hate them, I would add Nickleback to that list. It's kind of funny but it's true, other than "teeny boppers" no artist can seem to get that "big" anymore. Certainly in rock anyways, it seems like very few if any bands can seem to get the sort of support that the old bands like you listed had (and still have). Sure album sales are just plain harder now with the internet, but that's almost good at least in one way because it forces bands to do more touring if they want to make money. But how many rock bands that have formed in the last 15, even 25 years could actually fill a stadium?

I guess there are a few country bands that could as well, I am not into country at all Or perhaps some shows like those California Jams from years ago might work!

She is very big and never been here. First time is huge. The Stones sold out in 94 but didn't in 97.

If Metallica did another stadium tour, I could see them selling out IG field. that's who i was hoping it would be....their concerts at the arenas in Winnipeg sell out in minutes..they would absolutely sell out IG Field...problem is they tour in Europe at the festivals all summer so...TN would have to try and lure them here...but i have no doubt it would be huge..and actually would be historic as they haven't played outdoors here before...oh, and btw, they are actually relevant since their last album sold huge and was downloaded in massive numbers.
