As someone mentioned, the south side of the project was always supposed to be the way it is being built out now, the north side, where that CN intermodel hub was removed is supposed to be the awesome high end mall, with hotels, condos lots of restaurants etc
I too was shocked at the dollarama

Meh, Dollarama-type stores are found in high-end locals right across this country. I don't like it, but it's the norm, so whatever. It's not an indication of anything.

So Dollarama is like the evil thing now? Nope but a lot of us were hoping for a Saks Fifth Avenue or Armani outlet stores. We have a tonne of Dollarama and similar stores in Winnipeg. We're short on high-end retail. We've got Vittorio Rossi, Harry Rosen / Hugo Boss, and.... m.

According to those in the know on SSP, the north side of the site will become a type of high-end outlet mall; nothing that has been seen in Western Canada before. It's going to be a unique shopping experience not found in the vast majority of the country. According to most posters of SSP, the CMHR is the best thing to ever happen to Winnipeg, and the new "tallest skyscraper" (to be built at Smith and Graham), is a big step forward for the city, even though a quick Google search of the developers paints them as crooked and shady.

CMHR is good for Winnipeg. If the new Skyscraper comes to fruition it will be very good also.

CMHR is good for Winnipeg. CMHR is the arguably the worst thing ever to happen to Downtown Winnipeg, and that includes Portage Place. It has caused ethnic divisions between the Jews, Ukrainians, Germans, and many others. Lets not forget we are paying for it. At least the vast majority of the museum, the annual operating fees, and the cost overruns.

We used to tie onions to our belt back then, because that was the thing to do.

If it's devisive its because different groups allow it to be devisive. Its sort of a "if its not best for me than I dont want it at all" attitude.
Its a great idea in theory, the Museum and will be a great educational tool. Its being funded federally and would have been build in Ontario eventually if not here so the fact "we're paying for it" means nothing.
It will drive tourism. It's a beautiful building. Its investment in Winnipeg.
We could argue forever about it. But I support it.
