When did you first discover the "internet"? I came home from Bosnia in 1997 and decided to buy a computer (we were using Win 93 overseas) and find out what all the hoopla was about. Hooked up with AOL at the time (the CD and free internet thing, 500 free hrs.), I was hooked and never turned back. That was 28k dial up. Got 56k and thought it was the cats @ss! Didn't get high speed until around a year or two later, boy was that an eye opener!

Trying to make us feel old? My first real need for a computer was going back to university in 1997. I handed in a paper that was done on an electric typewriter, and soon discovered that computers made things a tad easier.

As far as the Net,I havent got a clue,it just happened.
Had a Gemini system,it played all the Atari games, but it was a 1/3 of the price.
But I still play these hand held classics from the early 80's,the sounds are awfull, but it brings back mem's from when I was 10.
scored over 5000 on Space once, man my fingers hurt bad, cause in those days there was no pause function, the game just rolls over when you hit 999

First got online in University in 1992. I connected using a 1200 baud modem for a while.
Tried running OS/2 Warp on my 80386 SX. Not a good idea...
NCSA Mosaic anyone?

TRS-80 (aka. Trash 80) w/ an old modem (possibly 9600 baud or worse); back in....85-ish? Our school had these old machines, and our gym teacher was "chosen" to teach us computers -- he was lost from day one but afterschool & at lunch hrs we figured out how to use the modem to connect to other schools in the province -- on this BBS. From there we connected to other students and traded "tips & tricks".
Then we got some old Apple 2E's and learned how to program in Pascal -- 89ish. Our HS teacher didn't have a curriculum or anything, so she went to UofM and grabbed their notes & assignments and we worked thru the 1st yr CompSci class (which made 1st yr university a bit of a breeze).
Anyway, I'm still doing IT consulting and I do websites & social media stuff on the side; something tells me once the hockey season starts I won't have as much free time to spend on the internet though -- Go Jets Go.
ps. are we allowed to swear on this site?
