Back in the 1980's everyone wanted to play for the Oilers.
Mario Lemiux refused to put on a Penguins jersey when Pittsburgh drafted him.
Thirty years later, its the opposite.
Build a winner and players will come.

Build a winner and players will come. Agreed the players want to be treated well by their organization and have a chance to win.

Get use to it, comes with the territory. It's a unprofessional comment period Well if that's the case I could probably take a run at over half the announcers that speak of Winnipeg, what he said to a degree is very true but if the day comes and we become the franchise that I think we can be, we will still here that kind of Crap especially from places like T.O. You got to remember so many people in T.O. have had their heads up there a$$ for so long and they all forgot to come up for air! (Brain damage)

Completely unprofessional comment followed by completely unprofessional replies to people on social media. I hate most sportscasters, but this guy is simply terrible.

Don't fall for this. It's the typical BS of someone who feels so badly of themselves so they slam others to make themselves feel better.
Personally I don't give people who slam Winnipeg a second thought. Winnipeg is an amazing city with amazing people and amazing ownership! So slam it all you want because I'd pick Winnipeg over Toronto or Montreal anyday!

Get use to it, comes with the territory. So that explains why Detroit, with its high crime, bankrupcy, pollution, less than ideal weather, etc. is the #1 organization that players want to play for.

Someone probably told him it was minus 50 and said "I'm glad I don't at there" and he ran with it. To me the story is not about Winnipeg because people will always say that and it will always be true for some and false for others. The real story is that a guy working for TSN would say that about a team doing business with TSN.

I don't understand the outrage. The fact is Winnipeg is the coldest and smallest city in the NHL. That for sure plays a part in many players minds. He's incorrect in saying no one would wanna sign here but there is some merit in saying Winnipeg isn't the msot ideal city to play in. But as others have mentioned, build a winning team and an organization that people respect for many players that weighs more heavily than the city itself.

If I played in the NHL I'd love to play in a market where there are passionate fans and excellent ownership. You watch - a few years down the line when a few more people will have experienced how amazing it is to play here there will be people who will want to come here. Especially when we are winning.
Let's not forget most NHL'ers are Canadian. It's not like they grew up in Florida and aren't used to cold winters. It IS hockey and it's played on ICE.
That commentator is just an ignorant blowhard.

The Jets can trade for young, single players. The draft picks and the single players can find themselves beautiful, classy ladies for wives who will convince them to stay. Does Winnipeg have an abundance of beautiful, classy women?
Finding a spouse in the city you play in could be instumental in keeping our players here.
