By the way, in case anyone was wondering, all Team Canada round-robin games will be played at 9am Central. That was nice of the organizers.

Stamkos is OUT!!! lightning.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=703913STAMKOS NOT CLEARED FOR GAME PARTICIPATION, WILL MISS OLYMPICS TAMPA BAY – Tampa Bay Lightning Center Steven Stamkos will not be able to participate in the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, Lightning Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman announced today. Stamkos underwent a CT Scan (which offers a three-dimensional view of the bone) this afternoon and then met with Lightning Medical Director Ira Gutentag, who was unable to clear Stamkos for game participation at this time. Rehabilitation with the Lightning training staff will continue and he will be reevaluated in 2-3 weeks. "After reviewing the CT scan this afternoon, Dr. Gutentag made it clear to me and to Steven that the tibia is not completely healed and therefore he should not be participating in game action at any time in the near future," Yzerman said in making the announcement. "Although the doctor was very pleased to this point with the healing process, he explained that the callus surrounding the fracture site is not 100 percent consolidated, and Steven will not be cleared to play in a game until that happens. It was a pretty clear cut decision, no gray areas at all." Stamkos fractured his right tibia on November 11 in a game against the Boston Bruins and he subsequently had surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital to place a titanium rod in the tibia. He has missed 39 regular season games to this point. "Today is obviously very disappointing for me," Stamkos said. "I honestly believe that we did everything possible in order to have my injured leg ready in time for the Olympics, but I realize you can't force healing. I know, in the best interest of my long term health, I cannot represent Canada in Sochi, as much as I would like to. I would like to thank the training staff for their dedication and hard work and I look forward to returning to the Lightning once cleared by the medical team."

Lots of rumours on Twitter on who might fill Stamkos' spot: Who are your favorites? St.Louis? Neal? Ladd?

Paul Maurice's comments on the "North American"-style play on the bigger ice...
Winnipeg coach Paul Maurice doesn't agree with Montreal Canadiens center and Czech Olympic team captain Tomas Plekanec, who says hockey on international ice, which is 15 feet wider than NHL rinks, is "a completely different sport." Maurice spent last season coaching Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the Kontinental Hockey League, and one thing he noticed during his time in Russia was that the most successful team didn't necessarily cater its game to the big ice. "The interesting part about it for me is that the team that won the last two KHL championships, Moscow Dynamo, has a Russian coach, almost all the players are Russian, and they play a North American game," Maurice said before his Jets edged the Canadiens 2-1 on Sunday. "They chip pucks, they finish checks, they block shots, and that's where the KHL is going. The rink is wider, it's not longer. If it's in the corner, it doesn't take you any longer to get there. There's more of the North American game getting into Russia than there is necessarily the big ice coming into our game."
...very insightful! Canada would be smart to add him to the coaching lineup b/c of his most recent experience in the KHL! Just saying...

Either way, keep in mind Maurice's team fell apart when Malkin returned to the NHL. At one point they were the best team in the universe (Mozyakin/Malkin/Kulemin being the best line on planet earth)...next thing you know, they're a 4 seed bounced in the first round. Under Iron Mike and without the NHL ringers (and a new goalkeeper, Vasily Koshechkin), they're second in the KHL, only to Dynamo Moscow

Ladd isnt even in consideration.
Girioux, St Louis, Neal, Staal.
Its either Marty St Louis or Neal and a strong argument could be made for either. Gerioux might be the dark horse but Crosby hates him
