IMO st johns gets a team again when expansion happens. Wouldnt be a bad spot for QC St. Johns isn't waiting for the Jets. they'll have a new affiliation for 2015-16. MTS could host 2 teams NHL & WHL or NHL & AHL(temporarily) I could see having the AHL affiliate play in Winnipeg for one year, IF True North doesn't land a WHL team. 3 would be too much 117 dates (not including preseason or playoffs) wouldn't be feasible.

^ other than Ottawa and the islanders whose leases are up in that timeframe? Outta was really the only shot and its unlikely because they have a good relationship with Binghamton. I know they were trying to put their from team in central ontario a few years ago but St. John's is a lot more revel than they have now.

If it was just for a season though I would think the junior team could play some dates at the Jets Iceplex. I assume though that the whole AHL for a year in Winnipeg is already an option 'C' - it would only happen if St John's lands another affiliate by 2015/16 AND if the arena in Thunder Bay isn't ready.

The TN/St.John's partnership has one year left. TN will not have their team in St. John's past the 14-15 season. Thunder Bay is Plan A. Winnipeg is Plan B.

^ Is that 100%? I haven't read or heard anything that confirms this.

Plan B would be a ground breaking experiment, but if you give it some close sought not a real a bad idea at all. May even put pressure on the big team players when you know the guy looking to replace you might be in the sands watching you play.

^ Is that 100%? I haven't read or heard anything that confirms this. I don't have a link at hand but yes, the Jets agreement with St, Johns expires after the 14-15 season. Thunder Bay will not be ready for the fall of 2015, 18 months and counting with still no deal let alone construction starting. St, Johns could renew for an extra year but if they have a opportunity with another team for a long term affiliation they'll jump at it.

We're not going to renew our contract past next year so long as we are hoping Thunder Bay is ready - makes sense. And St. John's wouldn't want to hold the following season open for us, they are trying to get a team for 2015/16 starting now - makes sense. But if we get to the end of next season, and it is clear that St. Johns won't have a team for 15/16 AND that Thunder Bay isn't ready for the Jets, I don't see why both parties wouldn't agree to something. The point is mute if St. John's can land a team, as they would no longer be an option. Just my opinion...

Neither Fargo or Grand Forks could support a AHL team, With UND no one would ever bring a AHL team there. I'd think with Thunder Bay delayed, the Jets would try and get a 2 year extension through 2016-17 with St. Johns providing they don't already have a tentative deal with another team. I think the Jets would rather relocate the team temporarily to Winnipeg rather then a unproven new location. I have to think shelving the WHL for now is due to the possibility the AHL team will play out of the MTS Centre for a year or two.
