Here is a new fly through of what the Edmonton arena district will look like.

I still feel Katz was too greedy. I really don't think the winter garden thing was needed but oh well. I'm still glad the Oilers are leaving that dump Rexall Place! Katz is the Bill Wirtz of Edmonton. As long as he owns the Oilers, they are destined to fail.

^ That's about it, I don't think he cares about the team, just about making as much money as he can. That's why he tried holding the team hostage to the city, saying he would move it to Seattle or wherever over getting an arena he can make more money in.

Any owner would have done the same. The Oilers were playing in a 1974 pit and they didn't receive any of the concert revenue from the arena either. Also look at all the development going on around the building including Edmonton's tallest skyscraper. That said the Oilers do suck and they would be better off with a new owner.

Katz is the Bill Wirtz of Edmonton. As long as he owns the Oilers, they are destined to fail. This is too harsh. He's no where close to Wirtz. At least the Oilers televise local home games.

I'm not referring to the new arena construction. Katz is just a bad owner.

Oh, 100% I agree. He's just not at a Wirtz level of badness. He's televising the games at least. That counts for something. LOL.

^ I don't know, the on ice product both owners are putting forward looks pretty comparable to me.

Question, why do the Oilers suck so bad? Is it because they draft poor? Does Katz resign good players or does he let them go ala Wirtz with Roenick, Belford, Chelios etc...

They draft the star number one forward every chance they get at the number one. They should have decided to build around Eberle and Hall and used the Nugent Hopkins/yakupov picks to trade for solid players and build a team. IMO if you are picking #1 or 2# for more than 2 years in a row you MUST use any additional high draft picks to either build the D line or to trade for solid nhl ready talent...really poor general management imo

Thanks! That to me doesn't sound like a Wirtz level of badness at least. Just poor management. Not insanely poor management. At least they are picking star players or trying to. It sounds like they are trying just don't know how to do it correctly because of stupidity. Wirtz didn't even try. He was a relic from the past who let every decent player they had go. Plus the idiot didn't televise the games!

Plus, paid attendance is still strong (as hard as it is to believe), so he would have no reason to blackout games.
