Ex-Jet Steen facing assault chargeBy: Mike McIntyre Winnipeg city councillor Thomas Steen is facing an assault charge following an incident last week at a city restaurant, the Free Press has learned. Steen turned himself in to police Tuesday evening and was promptly released on a promise to appear in court, a justice source said. The allegations have not been proven and Steen is presumed innocent. Steen allegedly got into a dispute May 1 at the Boston Pizza location on McPhillips Street. A woman known to Steen reported she was assaulted and contacted police, who authorized a charge following a brief investigation. Steen's release conditions include having no contact with the woman, who did not suffer any serious injuries. His first court appearance is later this spring. The Free Press tried to contact Steen for comment Tuesday evening. At press time, he hadn't returned a voice-mail message. Steen is currently finishing his first term as councillor for Elmwood-East Kildonan after being elected in October 2010. He is expected to run again this fall but will face a challenge from at least one candidate who has already declared. Prior to entering the political arena, Steen enjoyed a successful professional hockey career that included 14 seasons with the Winnipeg Jets. His son, Alex, is now a star forward for the St. Louis Blues of the NHL. www.mikeoncrime.comwww.winnipegfreepress.com/local/ex-jet-steen-facing--assault-charge-258240941.html

Steen already was facing a uphill climb in reelection, this may just bring him down.

This doesn't seem as serious as anything Bobby Hull did, but still its fairly serious.
Steen is one of the good guys, I sure hope this gets all cleared up.

According to the Free Press, it was his girlfriend, they were drinking and he punched her in the face I call BS on that. A man the size of Steen punches a woman in the face, yet there is NO evidence of injury? Ya right. Sounds like: 1. She's lying (manager said nothing happened, no patrons have come forward) 2. It could have got physical, but nothing criminal occurred. 3. She was being belligerent to other patrons, and Steen put her in her place, and nobody wants to talk as he was viewed as doing the right thing. Either way, in absence of personal injury, I am on Steen's side.

Doesn't take much to get arrested if a women is pissed at you. You are telling the truth. If a woman wants to charge her boyfriend with rape (sexual assault), all she has to do is phone 911, go to the Police Station, and have a somewhat believable story. Does not matter about physical evidence. The accused is jailed, and bail is set. He will have to hire a lawyer, could be fired from his job, have his children taken away from him, and vilified by society. Meanwhile, if the woman eventually drops the charge, for fear her lies will be exposed in a court of law, nothing will happen to her, and the man will have this blemish on his record for life. In some studies, it is estimated that 40% of rape accusations submitted to Police are false.

Although False Sexual Assault charges do happen...by far the most common is a False Domestic...there is a Zero Tolerance in regards to Domestic vilonce in the eyes of the law.. Even if a police officer has evidence to prove that the allegations are false the office has their hands tied and must arrest the person who is alleged to have made the assault... it happens all the time...

The girl he was dating had a psychiatric condition called Borderline Personality Disorder and she lied compulsively about everything including being pregnant. He tried to break up with her, and she phoned the cops and falsely accused him. One time we were lifting weights at his house. The cops showed up and arrested him, as she said he had thrown a knife at her apartment door, which was impossible as it was a 30 minute drive away, and I was his alibi. I still cannot believe it happened. She eventually confessed that she had lied, but he refused to press criminal miScheif charges against her and actually began seeing her again. That pretty much marked the end of our friendship as I refused to have anything to do with her.
