Remember old Olympia Stadium in Detroit the Red Wings home before Joe Louis arena? An original 6 arena! When it was torn down the put the original letters on the outside of the arena saying Olympia in storage. The Red Wings have taken it out of storage and put it in the concourse of the new arena. That was a good idea. Nice tribute to the past! I think this is probable my favorite arena feature in either the NHL or NBA. MSG's spooked roof is up there too! I think other than MSG Little Caesars arena is my favorite arena. I love the brickwork(it makes it seem like a historic arena even though it's new). The concourses are the best for any sports facility in any of the 4 major sports. I love all the things honoring Red Wings/Pistons of the past. EVERYWHERE there is something honoring them.

Ilitch, Gores team up for new entertainment powerhouse, 313 PresentsFor years, they've gone head-to-head in the metro Detroit concert market — rivals battling for shows, tour stops and fan dollars. Now Olympia Entertainment and Palace Sports & Entertainment (PS&E) have formed an alliance that shakes up the region's concert business. Their joint venture is called 313 Presents, and has been quietly in the works since Tom Gores announced that his Detroit Pistons would migrate from the Palace of Auburn Hills to the new Little Caesars Arena, managed by the Ilitch family. The new company will handle show scheduling, production, marketing and media relations for six of the region's dominant venues: Little Caesars Arena, DTE Energy Music Theatre, Fox Theatre, Meadow Brook Amphitheatre, Comerica Park and Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre at Freedom Hill.
313 Presents expects to oversee up to 500 events annually at those facilities, not including the Pistons and Red Wings' games at the new arena. The new era starts today with the rollout of a website — 313Presents.com — where show tickets will be sold for all six venues. The arrangement reshuffles the long-standing status quo in the local concert business: With the suburban Palace, DTE and Meadow Brook in its dominion, PS&E long dominated the action. Down in Detroit, meanwhile, the Ilitches' OIympia played a secondary role via Joe Louis Arena, the Fox and occasional Comerica Park dates. Now the Palace and the Joe are closed, Little Caesars Arena is open for business, and PS&E's duties have been folded into the new operation. Olympia Entertainment president Tom Wilson — a former Palace executive himself — will act as interim head of 313 Presents as the company hunts for a full-time boss. The entity 313 Presents will be a freestanding operation, initially employing about 40 people for work ranging from accounting to publicity, drawn from the existing staffs of Olympia and PS&E. The new company's offices are under construction at Little Caesars Arena and are expected to be ready in November. Olympia Entertainment, based in the Fox Theatre building, will carry on with other roles it already handles, including business operations for the Red Wings, venue sales and sponsorships, and duties such as security. Major tours are typically booked and routed by national promoters such as Live Nation and AEG Live, and 313 Presents will be working with them on those Detroit dates, just like PS&E and Olympia before it. But Wilson said the company is also ambitious about pursuing its own bookings, ready to "take more chances" and incubate up-and-coming talent to "grow an artist from the Fox up to Meadow Brook up to DTE and even up to Comerica if possible." "The more aggressive you are, the more often you leave the normal channels. I think we could be more aggressive as we try to find new acts and uncover new things," said Wilson. "But we anticipate Live Nation would be our most active partner, as they are (with venues) all over the country." Notable venues outside the dominion of 313 Presents include Live Nation's Fillmore Detroit and Saint Andrew's Hall, AEG Entertainment's Royal Oak Music Theatre, and the Detroit Lions' Ford Field. DTE, traditionally one of the top-grossing amphitheaters in the U.S., will become a focus of action in summer months, alongside fellow outdoor venues Meadow Brook and Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre. The Fox tends to kick into its busy season during fall and winter, and Little Caesars Arena is expected to be plump with marquee shows. The arena opened with a six-show Kid Rock stand last month, followed by dates from Ed Sheeran and Paul McCartney. "For so long, arenas were built as homes for sports teams, and then the concert business was something else you did," said Wilson. "I think this is a strong message with a focus: (Entertainment) is your third tenant, one of your most important tenants, so let's make sure it gets all the assets and freedoms and responsibilities it needs to do well." www.freep.com/story/entertainment/music/2017/10/08/ilitch-gores-little-caesars-arena/740233001/

Not really a surprise. Whenever they show games (or highlights) from Detroit there are always large pockets of empty seats. This goes back to when the Red Wings played in Joe Louis Arena.

Not really a surprise. Whenever they show games (or highlights) from Detroit there are always large pockets of empty seats. This goes back to when the Red Wings played in Joe Louis Arena. I'm sure you've seen this on HF boards but they are getting rid of the red seats since it's so easy to see empty's with the red color. www.freep.com/story/sports/2018/10/08/little-caesars-arena-red-seats-lower-bowl-attendance/1573228002/ When the arena was under construction they originally were going to have 1000 less seats but Mike Illitch stepped in and decided he needed more seats. Dumb move! Should have take a lesson from True North on supply/demand. They should outright remove 1000 seats. Both the NHL and NBA would be much better off.

Palace of Auburn Hills to be demolished this fallThe Palace of Auburn Hills — the Detroit Pistons' former home — will meet the wrecking ball this fall. T he Pistons organization announced Monday that The Palace has been sold to a joint venture involving team owner Tom Gores and Livonia-based developer Schostak Brothers & Co., which plans to redevelop the roughly 100-acre property as a mixed-use office park. The Palace itself is to be demolished sometime in the fall. The method of demolition is still to be determined, sources said, and a last-call public auction of Palace items, fixtures, equipment and memorabilia is a possibility. The Palace underwent some $40 million in renovations, including new seats and refurbished floors, just a few years before it closed. The Palace opened in 1988 with a Sting concert and hosted its last event, a Bob Seger concert, in September 2017. The Pistons moved out in fall 2017, heading to the new Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, although the team's offices stayed at The Palace. The Pistons organization is preparing to relocate the last of its business operations out of The Palace and into the new Henry Ford Detroit Pistons Performance Center in Midtown Detroit, which is on pace to open later this year. Financial terms of The Palace's sale were not disclosed. A timeline for the site's redevelopment has yet to be announced. "We promised the people of Auburn Hills and Oakland County that we would find a solution that would be good for the community and make a positive economic impact,” Gores said in a news release. “Partnering with a proven, well-respected developer like Schostak Brothers is an important step in delivering on that promise.” The Palace sits amid some of the most in-demand land in southeast Michigan for new auto-supplier headquarters and research and development companies. The vacancy rate for industrial, light manufacturing and R&D space in Auburn Hills is nearly zero.Oakland University was once said to be in serious talks with Gores' organization to buy the Palace site, but a deal never came together due to financing issues, sources told the Free Press. The university had hoped to partner with a private developer. www.freep.com/story/money/business/2019/06/24/palace-auburn-hills-demolished-detroit-pistons/1546695001/

No surprise here. The Palace was the 1st modern arena in either the NHL or NBA with the mid tier luxury boxes. The Palace has literally inspired the design of every arena in either the NHL or NBA.

Video shows final piece of Joe Louis Arena taken down Arena along Detroit River comes downThe final big piece of Joe Louis Arena came down this week. Crews worked through the night Wednesday to remove an 880-ton steel truss held up by two towers. Timelapse video from our Windsor skycam shows the truss being lowered slowly. Before the arena demolition finishes, work also needs to be done underneath. The city of Detroit said the full demolition is expected to be complete by the end of May. Joe Louis Arena opened in 1979. It shuttered in 2017 after hosting decades of hockey games and concerts. The Detroit Red Wings, of course, now have a new home at Little Caesars Arena at Woodward Avenue and I-75. www.clickondetroit.com/news/local/2020/03/05/video-show-final-piece-of-joe-louis-arena-taken-down/end of may the entire site will be 100% done
