The Worcester Sharks are moving to san jose,
The Manchester Monarchs are moving to California
The Monarchs mayyyy get an ECHL franchise instead but that totally sucks for two pretty decent fanbases.
IMO id love to see the QMJHL expand into new england . Expand 2 teams to Manchester and Worcester. look at markets such as Lowell (tough with the river hawks though) and then maybe a portland maine team (since they may lose their ahl team)
Its not that bad a trip up to quebec and the whl teams have probably worse travel.

I don't understand having the parent club and the AHL team in the same city. I understand having them close but not in the same town that's not good economics. It might be ok in Toronto but not San Jose. This forced California expansion is going to backfire. Sure it looks good on paper but I just don't see it being a real world solution.

Lots of Hockey fans in California, this could work.

^ Even if it fails they can move the teams again. Its not like sticking an NHL team in a bad market they won't lose nearly as much money and can be moved again a lot easier.

You correct it is much cheaper and easier to relocate a AHL team than an NHL team. I understand why the leauge wants to move west I just don't think they are going about doing it the right way. Sure there are hockey fans in California there is a lot in Oklahoma. Other than Toronto, Montreal, NY & Chicago I don't think it makes sense to have a NHL and AHL team in the same town.

If it is an ownership and management problem situation like we have in OKC then I can see why you would do a temporary move but if just to do it so we can say we moved to California sounds like something I would have done when I was 19. If the club is stable in Worcester leave it there if not and there is problems off the ice and the club needs to be closely watched by the parent club then a move to SJ makes sense but I doubt that's the case. I just feel like the AHL is ramrodding these California moves because it's a "sexy" thing to do.

^ They wanted a team in California because of the travel time it takes to get players from Worcester to get to San Jose. Honolulu is closer to SJ than Worcester they needed the team to be closer and SJ is the best fit for now. Just like if the Ice Caps had to play in Winnipeg for a season until Thunder Bay is ready Winnipeg needs a closer farm team as well.

That is logical I do agree some of the NHL & AHL teams are far away in the event of a call up. I just don't want to see cities lose a team they support because the west coast is cool in the eyes of the AHL & NHL guys in suits. I can promise you even thought I don't like the Oilers even as hard as I have tried to and for sure don't like the Barons owner it's hard to lose our AHL team it's been real hard on my 10 & 11 year old boys. I had to rehearse how I was going to brake the news to my boys the team was leaving the same way I would as if a pet died

That's along the lines of what I'm hoping for. I think the ECHL is a great league.

[/quot The Barons have never had great attendance from day 1. Not sure you can put the blame on the owners for that.

until this season you could buy the equivalent seat across the street at the Thunder game for the same money, within in $3 difference depending on the section as you could at a Barons game. Only exception would be the court side seats nobody I know can afford anyway. I'll gladly pin that on Barons ownership. If your the average sports fan your going to watch Durant vs. LeBron before you are some AHL prospects for the same money. Ticket prices and marketing failed the Barons no question
Then you get what they did to me and offer if you buy X number of tickets you get X number of jerseys. I bought enough tickets to get 3 jerseys show up to get my jerseys and it's oh sorry you only get 1 jersey no matter how many tickets you buy. That doesn't make you exactly want to come back. I could write a 10 page essay on how much of a joke my ticket rep was that comes back to ownership & management

Where they that much higher last season? Sounds like they tried with $1 hotdogs and $2 beers and giving away a car every game last year.

$16-$46 if memory serves me right. When we moved back to town and I started checking in to games I had a stroke when I saw prices. The $16 seats are now roped off and not for sale this season. I know the lower seats were over $45. The $10 seats in section 410 are honestly the best seats in the building. Plus it's next to the NHL scouts I'd gladly pay $30+ to sit there before I would next to the glass behind one goal. Lots of blame to go around for the failure here but most of it I can point at prodigal sports. I'm sure the Thunder being in town hurt them too but who can turn down a successful major leauge team?
