Hey!
I have a question about recent events in Winnipeg vis a vis the latest budget, tax hikes, and Mayor Bowman.
I'm not in Winnipeg so it doesn't affect me directly but I'm curious how the tax hike and recent budget is going over. I was surprised at how overwhelmingly Winnipeggers voted for the guy who promised tax hikes and more government spending but what I'm even more surprised by is the reaction to the budget. So my question is to those who live in the city: is there that much negativity surrounding the hikes and levies or is it just a case of a few Foghorn Leghorns making lots of noise? I'm guessing the latter since Bowman was elected with such a strong plurality but I'd like to hear from other average Joes.
Thoughts?

Can´t do it for free, and we've had taxes frozen for a decade...actually longer. What needs to be said? 2014/15 - The official return of the "White Out"!!

I didn't vote for Bowman, but a tax increase was both inevitable and warranted. It's not like it's a 100% increase either. I'm OK with it. I haven't taken a close look at the budget - hopefully there's an increase to infrastructure spending.

Yeah I don't think there is much of an uproar... anyone who drives down the streets, particularly at this time of year, can see we need to spend more money.
Overall, meh...

infrastructure needs way more money, but do we need a $300,000 dog park downtown??
I would like Bowman to explain why he is in favor of the Parker dog leg for the next phase of the RT route. I emailed him and got a generic reply from his staff whic I thought was "not cool", so I emailed again and this time, no response from Mayor Transparency.
I know my councilor Mayes said it was to promote infill development, I asked him how much infill (virtually nothing) has been done in the 4-5 years since phase one opened and he didn't reply.
12 years of tax freezes really hurt the city but also some lousy planning did as well.
Sadly I voted for Bowman to ensure that Judy didn't win. I am willing to guess that many more voted the same way. If Judy hadn't been in the race, Bowman may not be mayor now
