not eligible for fed funding. thunder bay option is dead. now what? I'd think see how things go with season tickets and marketing for next season, maybe with the savings from all the flights and extra housing costs the team could be viable in Winnipeg. sure. it would be viable here for 3 years. anything after that though and im not so sure. Fargo would be a great place. maybe even Lincoln .

Here I was thinking I was finally going to have a compelling reason to make the long trek to TBay and check it out. Sorry to hear it's been cancelled but judging by the comments section, going ahead with it would not have been a popular decision. Perhaps it's only the vocal minority and naysayers commenting, I don't know, but it seems pretty unanimous there.

Not like there are a bunch of better options at this point. Keping the team here would be better then Hamilton I think. I can't see fargo working better then keeping the team here. AHL prices wil be more then USHL and they drew 3500 for the past 2 years.

Saskatoon was the most attractive option, but the AHL and WHL have some kind of handshake agreement not to invade each other's turf, especially the same arena. From what I hear, the WHL Blades recently signed a lease, that guarantees they are the primary tenant. Fargo may work, as AHL is a minor professional league, as opposed to the USHL, which is a junior hockey league not on par with the WHL. Fargo has the Fargodome, 250,000 people in the area, and the city is in close proximity to WInnipeg. Other cities that the Jets may try their luck, would be Omaha, Des Moines, Peoria, and possibly a second team in the twin cities (Minneapolis). All this is contingent on the Winnipeg AHL team only being in the city for a short term.

I like the Fargo idea a lot If it's viable that would be my absolute first choice. Mix a bunch of cross-border shoppers with a local appetite for hockey and it should in theory work. But from what I've gleaned of local tastes down there it's all about College sports with a dollop of Minnesota Wild. m.

Fargo has 230,000 people in the metro area, so I would think it would be large enough to support an AHL club. I know the CHL and USHL place teams in the region. Also there have been AHL clubs place in cities of similar size like Des Moines, Davenport (Quad Cities), Omaha, and Peoria. I can see a pro hockey team working. I assume the Fargodome can be converted into a 10,000 seat hockey arena, if need be.

Don't know why the team couldn't work full-time in Winnipeg. It's obviously a massive hockey market, and any hockey going will be gobbled up by residents. There's just so many advantages to having the team in the same city as the big club.
Secondly, I hope the jersyes are different to the Jets. I hate how most AHL teams are basically worse versions of their respective big-clubs - loses a sense of identity. Winnipeg Polars in powder blue would look suave.

Have they named the team or anything yet? Any news or rumours out there? Friday is the day for the unveiling as indicated by True North last week.
