Both organizers went AWOL. GMs didn't show up at the agreed time.

Too bad, really dissapointing. I didn't make it tonight due to my skating tryout with the Jets Game Days Crew at the IcePlex. I had a really good core too, what a shame!

Strangest thing...both commissioners deleted their accounts without a single word to anyone after failing to show up for the drafts...only 4 GMs showed up this time...

Now I'm glad I didn't find the time to get involved. A shame for those that did though.

Are we forming a new league?
I think we said we were...how will that be posted about and GMs notified?

I thought about it last night - we put the time into doing ten rounds, why let that go to waste? If we have three abandoned teams, ask the membership at large if anyone wants to take them over. Their first ten players are picked so we can pick up where we left off.

I have not deleted the old game...just made it "invisible" for the time being...I've thought about it also and I'm out for good this time...but if anyone wants to continue all of the old posts are saved and can be made to reappear...

Are we forming a new league? I think we said we were...how will that be posted about and GMs notified? A buddy of mine who's got a hard-core league going (it's in it's twentieth year!) has four teams open and said he'd be happy to have my buds and I step in. Any interest? m.

I would be interested in it for sure, along with another friend. Is the league set up like this one?

OK guys, we're all invited to join the Global Owners Hockey League!
Here's the lowdown:
8 teams last year, some teams have left for this year. Rosters: keeper league of only up to 3 "protectables". (some guys only keep one player allowing them to draft earlier rounds to re-build). Active roster: 2 G, 6 D, 12 F are active with an additional 4 players on the farm. Transactions: Players can be demoted/benched in any numbers (B). You can only bring up 5 players per season if they have already been sent down (B). That is what we call a "recall". As many players as you want can be brought up if they haven't been active before as new players. (F) Sept/Season Draft: 3 random order rounds for 'expansion/protectables" rounds, then 4th through 24th rounds are non-oscillating, regular rounds. Protectables are submitted by secret ballot so that no one has any advantage of draft order and protectables. then the random order is found using dice rolls. Winner drafts no better than midway the next season. Loser drafts no worse than midway. 4800 minutes are minimum for active goalies. Not meeting that is automatic worse place finish and drafting last each round for the next season. All star break: At all star break weekend or over Superbowl we get together watch the game and draft another 5 rounds, using the worst to first order for each round to help bring teams back into the race. This brings 5 new (F) players onto your lineup so recalling (B) players isn't necessary unless it is a return from injury. The bottom 3 teams at that time enter a separate race called the Turtle Derby. The most team points gained by that 1 of 3 teams gets the first overall pick next season. That way they don't make lopsided trades and make an "artificial" champion. Trades: yes trades are allowed as many as you wish so long as the same player never returns to a team that have already been "owned" by that same season. ie. "no returns!" Entry Fee/Donation: By the way, the entry is $20 per person and I donate the entire amount to a charity that needs it most. Bragging rights is usually more than enough "currency" to stroke the Champs ego for a year!! Side bets are allowed between teams and I let one of the teams handle that money to keep everything straight. Unfortunately, there has been a series of tragedies globally that always seem to speak for it in a most obvious fashion so the debate over which charity has been rather mute the past few years. draft dates: We normally hold the draft first weekend in October. That might have to change until after october 9th this year?? Proud to say that this year will be our 20th year (19th season - damn lockout!)
It's a straight-up cut and paste from the email I got from Chris (of the OffSIDE Blog / Whiteout Nation fame) so I don't have all the answers to what I'm sure will be a number of questions, but I'd be pleased to investigate any queries that you may have.
Some key differences between our defunct league and this league are:
1. This one costs $20 to get into with the cash going to an agreed-upon charity. Last year they donated it to Haiti. This should keep the no-shows and disappearing acts to a minimum. When a few bucks get thrown in, people take it more seriously IMHO.
2. Scoring is as follows (as far as I can tell): (Total points) plus (plus/minus) minus (PIM/10). In other words, a negative plus minus hurts you (rather than just having a positive plus/minus be a bonus) and you're penalized for PIM's.
Points seem to be calculated the same for defensemen and forwards. I can't tell how goalies contribute to the bottom line.
3. Keeper league - you get to protect three players but it seems that your keepers are chosen in the first three rounds of the draft rather than just before the next years draft. With only three keepers though this shouldn't have much effect on your drafting strategy.
4. No salary cap. Not my preference but such is life.
I'm sure there are more questions to be asked - I'd be happy to forward them or PM the email of the GOHL Commissioner to interested parties. If you have genuine, bone-fide interest in the league, post it here and I'll get everyone hooked up.

It occurred to me - Hawker no showed the third night of drafting and came back on board saying he had been arrested (wrongfully). Wasn't that around the time Dustin Byfuglien got into some trouble? m.
