You want quick access to the players on your farm team, and 50% of the Jets games are on the road and 80% of the road games are in the US, and 98% of AHL teams are located in the US. Having a team in Thunder Bay that is 1 hour away from T/O, an airport that you can get pretty much any ware in the US on a moments notice, is the best place Winnipeg could possibly house a farm team, only better place than that is to have your farm team in Toronto! Don't think T.Bay is a lost cause yet! A flight from Thunder Bay to Toronto is approximately 1:50. Winnipeg to Toronto is 2:30. 14 flights daily from WPG to TO 12 flights daily from TBay to TO, 3 of those are on Porter Airlines that wouldn't be landing at the main terminal in TO. Winnipeg has the advantage of direct flights to numerous other NHL destinations, and a handful of other major connecting airports besides TO. Thunder Bay has absolutely zero advantage over Winnipeg when it comes to travel schedules. The question was about Saskatoon.

No big deal. I'm glad it's Winnipeg and not Saskatoon/TBay/or Moosomin.

For the Jets organization T.B. is the best place because they did not want it here in Winnipeg, this was forced on them because of plans that fell threw. Winnipeg would only be the best place if this was truly where they wanted it.

Seems as though the Moose are doing reasonably well as far as Season Ticket sales...I'm curious to know what sort of numbers they got?
I'm thinking we get more season tickets for our AHL team than Florida and Arizona do for their NHL team...

It should be interesting to see how well the AHL sells on Friday, when tickets are released to the general public.

True North May just have to build a 5k seat arena themselves. Hmm maybe join up with the Lakehead Thunderwolves men's University Hockey Program, might find Federal funding that way, just a sought. Hell if the Bison's can do it with the Bombers they surely can do something like that in T.B. for a quarter of the cost. Not a bad thought at all. lowell had ahl + NCAA for awhie...though the NCAA team was much more popular and AHL died in Lowell. Now they sell out their 6k seat arena in a small New england city. 7k seats in thunderbay? would do fine.

Thunder bay is not exactly known for it's professional sports. I never liked the idea of putting a AHL team there, since I don't believe it can sustain the franchise, long term. Saskatoon would be a much better fit, if the Moose had to relocate.

The Moose would be the only ticket in town in Thunder Bay. I think the AHL would be a good fit there.

Well as of today, the Moose have sold 4,000 season ticket packages. That is good news, and for the first year, the Moose should be able to be in the top 10, in terms of attendance. I'm not sure if Winnipeg can sustain two professional hockey teams long term. My first choice would be Saskatoon, but the arena has a legal agreement with the Saskatoon Blades, stating that the only way a second hockey team can use the facility is if the NHL awards a team to Saskatoon.
Thunder Bay is questionable. 120,000 people, and in decline. No arena, and not a rich city. Fargo may be a better choice.

Going shopping in Fargo you never see any Wild merchandise in the sporting stores or around town. It's all Twins stuff.

I'm surprised that there is no radio announcement yet. Not CJOB I guess or it probably would have been Moore.

No! I hated the old colours and I actually really like these. I've always like the Moose logo itself, and the colors are better now. I like the fact that it's pretty cheap. I can take my family to a game for the price of one of my seats for a Jets game. It gives people who can't get to the Jets games either due to price or availability of tickets a chance to see our young guns too. Good stuff all round. You are in a small minority. The colours are brutal.
