When the Announcement was made that the Atlanta Thrashers were moving to Winnipeg, there was a lot of talk about the team name. In the end, the team was named the Winnipeg Jets. However, there were rumors that True North wanted to start with a fresh identity and that they wanted a "polar bear" theme. The Moose are debuting a "polar bear" themed jersey on January 9. I wonder if it was based on a concept for the NHL team? moosehockey.com/polar-bear-jersey-night-january-9//photo/1

Was not a rumour, original sale of the teams paper work had the name on it, after the backlash the paperwork had to be changed to Winnipeg Jets.

And why would the team sale documentation have the moniker on it? The Polar Bear logo went back to 2007 when the Predators were on the table to be sold to True North. The idea was that a Polar Bear was a top-level "Predator". (Source is Chipman himself, most of you know the story). It's possible that I was told an outright lie I suppose but what was said was that True North was leaning towards the "Bears" name but was by no means committed in any tangible way. m.

I was told it had the team name in the sale, later it had to be changed.

^ Those pictures look consistant with the rumours of the team name and colours that were going on back in 2011. Maybe that was their original plan. Why else would they have a polar bear jersey night with a team called the moose lol

I'm sure happy they didn't go with a weak name like that.
It's bad enough they brought in Bayak and that damn moose for a mascot!

^ Yeah, not a fan of the Polar Bear theme at all...so glad the Jets didn't come back with that name.
