Good to see you again Bruinsfan! The sale is not done but Greenberg has owned a bunch of minor league teams and was CEO of the Texas Rangers at one point. This is a legit guy. The sale includes at least $100M in debt. If the sale is complete Greenberg is going to bring on local ownership too. I just worry at the last minute Karmanos will make an insane request like pay $600M and let me still run the team even though you now own it. I heard that was why the original Jets left. Spirit of Manitoba had a deal in place in 1995, but Shankerow insisted on running the team, even though he was only going to be a minority owner, with a very small % of the team retained. I heard the NHL changed the rules reguarding ownership once Spirit of Manitoba gained momentum. The NHL was determined to get the Jets to Phoenix. They changed the rules again once the Winnipeg Jets were gone.

I heard that was why the original Jets left. I heard the NHL changed the rules reguarding ownership once Spirit of Manitoba gained momentum. The NHL was determined to get the Jets to Phoenix. They changed the rules again once the Winnipeg Jets were gone. There was a public outcry when Spirit of Manitoba was told (according to them) that the NHL informed them that Spirit of Manitoba would not be permitted to pledge future revenue streams (e.g. maybe share of television revenues) as security for bank lending. This was a change that the NHL made very late in the process of submitting an alternate proposal for Spirit of Manitoba to buy the team. There was a sentiment that this was the NHL trying to block the attempt to save the team and keep it in Winnipeg. Among others (maybe), people like myself (@justwokeupjava), my brother (@nhljets2point0) and Mike Fraser (@bcmikejetsfan) remember this development.
