Former NHL forward and coach Eddie Olczyk has been diagnosed with colon cancer. Olczyk, who turns 51 on Aug. 16, had surgery last week, and Chicago Blackhawks team physician Dr. Michael Terry says he "will be undergoing further treatment in the coming weeks, including chemotherapy." Olczyk is a colour analyst for Blackhawks games and nationally for NBC.
Olczyk played 16 seasons in the NHL, helping the New York Rangers win the Stanley Cup in 1994. He also coached the Pittsburgh Penguins for the 2003-04 season and part of the 2005-06 season. Olczyk says he expects to return to the broadcast booth after he completes his treatment. He also thanked his family, the Blackhawks, NBC Sports and his friends and fans for their support.

I created another thread but noticed wolfman already created this one so moved my post here... From Jets website: On behalf of the Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club, our fans, and our alumni, we'd like to send best wishes for a speedy recovery to former Jet Eddie Olczyk as he begins his fight against colon cancer. As evidenced this past year when he returned for the Heritage Classic in October, Eddie remains a fan favourite in Winnipeg and a good friend to many members of True North Sports + Entertainment and the Winnipeg Jets. We ask Jets fans to keep Eddie in their thoughts. www.nhl.com/jets/news/statement-from-the-winnipeg-jets-on-medical-update-of-eddie-olczyk/c-290622828A good guy and one of my favourite Jets...get well Eddie!

God Bless you Eddie. Thoughts and prayers for your full recovery.
I lost both my dad and my 'grandpa' (not really my grandpa but he was like the paternal grandpa I never got to meet) to colon cancer. I so f**king hate cancer.
