I don't know about anyone else, but I'd love to see Shane Doan back at the Jets, not only for sentimental reasons (which I think are reasons enough) but because I think he's one of the most underrated, but solid Right Wingers in the league, and a great leader. The Jets aren't exactly flush with aged 30+ players, so I think his input would be crucial to a team full of youth.
I'd love to hear what you guys think of this

He mentioned long ago that he doesn't want to play in Winnipeg again. Therefore, I don't want him.

After all his comments about how he really, really, really wanted to stay in PHX for various reason, when Winnipeg was the obvious #1 relocation candidate for the Coyotes, he's one of the last players I'd like to see play for the Jets. Some may disagree, citing legitimate family reasons for Doan's thoughts/statements, but I disagree.

Well, looks like I've been outvoted on this one! But I can say, in my defence, that I've never heard any of those comments, and had I heard them, I probably wouldn't have put this thread! Oops

I defended him at the time as he was doing his part as Captain of the Coyote to say all the things coyotes' fans expected their Captain to say. But he got a little over the top, talking about how is son was teary-eyed asking how they can make him move when he signed a no-trade contract etc.
We'll see if he learned his lesson when the Yotes move to Quebec. I'm sure he'll love Quebec more than Winnipeg...

The Jets are planning to reach their peak 4-5 years from now and make their challenges for the cup then, why would we want to add a declining 34 year old who is clearly more worried about packing up and moving then anything? When we're pushing for a cup run 5 years from now, Doan will be around 38-39 and in all likelihood won't be capable of producing what he is now. He'll be a bottom 6 whose intangibles will be more important then statistics.
If we want those sort of players, then we can get them through free agency 5 years from now as "final piece" moves.

Doan is tough as nails and has a ton of heart. It was obvious how devastated he was from loosing in 4 straight against Detroit in the post game interview. It looked like he wanted to beat the crap out of the reporter when asked about the off ice distraction that was going on.
He always suited up for team Canada when called upon and if it wasn't for having a deeply rooted family in Phoenix and the fact that he is on the tail end of his career I have no doubt that he would love to play in a hockey crazy market like Winnipeg.

I've got a special "boo" for Shane Doan in the works. Not very respectful of Winnipeg considering this city gave him his first games in the NHL. I know it's tough to move your family and such but... that's life. Many people have to uproot their families for employment reasons and they sure as Crap don't make the kind of money you do in the NHL.

Regardless of Doan's affinity towards Phoenix, he will be over the hill by the time we are ready to be a legitimate contender (likely in another 2-3 years).
He has been in the league for 16 years, and it is hard to see a power forward like him being as useful as he used to be in a couple of years.
Not to mention the price Phoenix would want for him would be an overpayment.
The name was the best way to connect with the past. We don't need to bring in an ex Jets player just for nostalgia (same goes with the Moose too). If they are worth and can add value to what the organization is trying to accomplish, then sure. If not, stay away.
