Once in grade 4, I managed to trade a PB & J for a slice of pepperoni pizza and a pudding cup. Was never really into trading food, but that's pretty good.

The trade with St.Louis in 1981 when we acquired Paul MacLean. I believe he was an afterthought in the trade, and ended up behind Hawerchuk as the Jets leading goal scorer of the 1980's.

Trading for Randy Carlyle If I remember correctly, we sent Moe Mantha to the Pens for Carlyle. The Pens never admitted it at the time, but the owners really pressured the management to 'do something' to fall behind the New jersey Devils were the worst team in the 1983-84 season. Pittsburgh quickly traded some key players, including Carlyle for less talented players and draft picks. The reason for all this was to lose as many games as possible in the final stretch to fall behind the Devils, and acquire Mario Lemieux, who was hearlded as the 'French Gretzky' at the time. It worked. The Penguins won only 3 games in their final 20, and managed to drop behind New Jersey, ending up with a record of 16-58-6. It saved the franchise. Attendance and team records would improve nearly every year, until the Penguins won the Stanley Cup in 1991. we managed to get Carlyle, so it was arguably our best trade ever. A real win-win situation.

Kris Draper for $1... back then that got you 2 and a bit Litres of gas. HUGE! I don't know about that one. I've always wondered...could the Jets have got more for him. Maybe a fiver. Ten bucks. Hell, shoot for the moon and ask for a hundred. Would the Red Wings have balked at $100? Were the Wings firm on a dollar? You'd figure being Winnipeg, there would have been some bartering to get the best deal possible. ;D

After Domi burned his bridges in Winnipeg at the end of his run, trading him for Mike Eastwood and Eddie Olczyk was one of the best deals Paddock made. (Actually all of the trades he made other than the Selanne deal he made practically at gunpoint were solid.) We shipped out a malcontent, (who is anything but welcome at the ACC these days for how he treated the organization which wasn't much different than how he was here,) for a top faceoff/penalty killer and an aging Eddie who had one more good year left.
Paddock also traded Mike Smith era bust Mats Lindgren and a draft pick for Dave Manson who, past his prime, was better than Lindgren ever was.
His coup de grace was trading Bob Essensa and Sergei Bautin for Dallas Drake and Tim Cheveldae. Essensa was shot after Smith destroyed him and Bautin was well... Bautin. Cheveldae was a decent goaltender who helped pave the way for Khabibulin to be the Jets' #1 goaltender and Dallas Drake went on to be a solid top tier power forward for the Jets/Coyotes for many years to come.
