I wish sometimes I could just go back in time and show all those hockey marketing experts what the difference would be between hockey in Phoenix and hockey in Winnipeg. Compare this photo to the ones above

Yes, of course it's subpar attendance here in PHX for a preseason team. We aren't Canada, we aren't playing in front of a home crowd for the first time in 15 years, and we aren't owned.....yet.
I'm actually surprised at how many DID turn out without a lick of advertisement. I'm ready for this non-owner hell to end one way or another, and sorry for QBC I think it's going to end well before year is out.
Go enjoy your new team. Why keep on PHX butt now? Philly was poorly attended for Bryzgalov full game debut: poor guy was shaky. Smith gave up a quick goal on defensive breakdown and then was solid rest of his half game. Labarbara now in. Yes, I am talking hockey, not attendance. Sue me.

Awww, that looks down at my old seat. I do wish i was there tonight. Miss all my friends in 104 as well as all my friends on staff. We'll have to see what sort of photos come out of the game in Columbus on Sunday. Although they are promoting the hell out of that game...

When we knew the Jets were leaving before the 1995/96 season, the first few games were played in nearly empty arenas. A team in limbo can have a negative effect on turn out. It even did in Winnipeg. But I've been following Phoenix attendance since game one. Hockey has been a consistent tough sell there. But its great to have hockey fans like you on this board. And I believe you don't have to be from Canada or a snow filled landscape to truly appreciate hockey.

And they will play.... where? They don't have an arena. They can't be a part of this discussion until 2014 at the earliest. I understand the point of this thread, but in all honesty with the lack of interested AND prepared markets, contraction is the only thing to solve this and that's not going to happen. Hamilton is the only relatively close Canadian market - the Leafs won't allow another team in Toronto - and other American markets aren't exactly shouting for a team or they would have one already.

Man, those seats in Dallas look huge...like 1.5 MTSC seats!
Seriously though...how does this league afford to pay guys like Oduya $4 million per year? It's ridiculous.

The funny thing about those dallas pics is that it still looks fuller than most Atlanta games that announced double that number. Quite sad though considering only two years ago they always had over 16K per game. I hope they fix their ownership issues soon, then we'll see.

Have you ever checked out the people in the US? A great number (way more than 50%) are at least one and a half times bigger than the average Canadian......thus the need for larger seats !!!

I posted this earlier in another thread... So far, after approx 30 NHL games total, Winnipeg Jets home avg attendance (15,004 / 1 gm) is better than the following teams: DAL, BUF, NYI, NJD, LAK, CLB, BUF, AHM, + nine teams that haven't played a home game. So, unofficially after 1 home game we are ranked 13th in the league in attendance at 100% capacity -- not bad for a small market team. Also, as Lawless reminded me yesterday during his show, contraction may not be the resolution to this problem -- the NHLPA will not accept contraction (as far as the current CBA is in effect). Unfortunately, the NHL has set a precedent w/ PHX -- if you have an arena but your hockey market sucks to the point where the franchise has to go into bankruptcy, the NHL and all the other teams will take over the running of that franchise and cover the losses until a suitable owner is found OR a suitable market is found. Yup...hockey-crazed markets like Winnipeg might be the future of the league...but we already knew that.

I thought LA and Anaheim were overseas?
Didn't the Texas Rangers play last night, went into extra innings?
