Feb 8: Bisons Downed in Regular Season Finale
The regular season has come to a close in the CW. Out East, the AUS has also wrapped and the OUA has two games left on Sunday. Here's what went down.

The Bisons rebounded effectively from the Friday night debacle. The Evil Monkeys grabbed a 3-0 first period lead, with two short-handed goals on the same penalty. Rather than fold the tent, the Bisons battled back to 3-2. Eventually it was an empty-netter that salted this one away. Overall, I would say that the Bisons carried the last two periods.
Quick Summary
1st 08:19 ALB Nolan Volcan (6) ASST: Soy & Owre
1st 12:44 ALB Dawson Davidson (4) ASST: Pawlenchuk & Butcher (SH)
1st 13:24 ALB Lucas Nickles (8) ASST: Sanford & Lange (SH)
2nd 03:41 MAN Brady Pouteau (5) ASST: Schioler & Thiessen
2nd 07:39 MAN Adam Henry (11) ASST: Thiessen & Dalke
2nd 10:56 ALB Noah Philp (12) ASST: Davidson & Sanford (PP)
3rd 19:16 ALB Tyler Soy (15) ASST: Owre & Carroll (EN)
Riley Lamb was in net for the Bisons and stopped 27 of 31 shots. Matt Berlin got the win (with 11 saves on 13 shots) but left mid-way with an injury. He reached up high to make a glove save and pulled something. Brendan Burke finished off with 9 saves on 9 shots.
Here are the CW stats on shorthanded play this year:
These stats are what has prevented the Bisons from moving into a top-4 type of team. Although the team made great progress this year, this is the area to address in the upcoming playoffs and next year as well. They scored 21 powerplay goals, but gave up 11 shorthanded goals. The other way on the PK they gave up a league-worst 32 powerplay goals and scored just one shorthanded goal in reply. That's a -21 overall. So even strength they were outscored just 63 to 54. A -9 ratio should be a much better record than 9-15-4.
The win gave the Monkeys 1st, and the Bisons 6th.

The sides switched locales for this return match. This was the end of the road for the Banjo-Cats, but the Banjo-Mutts gained temporary hold of 1st place with the win. In a nice nod, the Kittens gave graduating goaltender Dawson MacAuley the start, and he stopped 30 of 36 shots. However, the Kittens threw in the towel in the 2nd period. I saw lots of the 1st period before the Bison game started. Shots were 8-8 and Regina led 1-0. But the rest was a joke. Sask outshot them 28-5 and outscored them 6-1. Taran Kozun stopped 11 of 13 for the win.

The Hørny Ønes' inglorious 2nd semester came to a merciful conclusion. They basically went on sabbatical at Christmas. The Bedrock Dinos were led by Ryan Graham with two goals and Brodan Salmond's 27 saves. Jack Burgart took the loss with 39 saves on 45 shots.

This one was a matinee and the result temporarily vaulted the Bluegars into 3rd place and left the T-irds in striking distance of Manitoba in the race for 5th. Wyatt Hoflin got the win with 22 saves on 24 shots and Rylan Toth took the loss with 19 saves on 22 shots. Connor Rankin had two goals for MRU.
STANDINGS
The playoff schedules are TBA but we know that the quarter-finals will be Manitoba at Calgary and UBC at Mount Royal.
If Manitoba beats Calgary, the semi-finals would be Manitoba at Alberta and UBC/MRU winner at Saskatchewan.
