WHL commissioner hints it may be in the cards. As reported in WFP: NOTABLE: WHL commissioner Rob Robison said Wednesday his league is not immediately looking at expansion. He did add, however, that the WHL does want a presence in the biggest cities in Western Canada -- including Winnipeg. "With the NHL, given the fact we've co-existed so well in Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary, we feel certainly Winnipeg long-term would make sense," Robison told The Canadian Press. "Clearly the priority would be another team on (Vancouver) island or Winnipeg." Robison added that it's too early to talk to the Jets ownership about owning a WHL team or whether it would give the green light to one setting up in this market. "Whatever direction we go, we have to have full endorsement from the NHL team because we would not want to be in a competitive position, rather a complementary position to offer a lower price point for fans," Robison said. "It's dictated also by the facility." www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/hockey/jets/noel-making-plans-for-cutdown-130336778.html

I think TN will want to get the Jets secured in the market before brining in the WHL.
I do know this, the Calgary Hitmen are a cash cow for the Calgary Flames.

That'd be cool! At least all four major cities in the western half of Canada have a WHL team once that's done and if it worked in the other three, I'm sure it can work for Winnipeg too!

I would love to see the WHL here, great hockey. There would be a natural rivalry with Brandon and for those who can't get Jets tickets or can't afford them would have a chance to see some hockey.

It would give a great option to a lot of the Moose crowd-families and you have to think would draw similar crowds (8000+).
The only thing that would limit this is the distance (doable, but still far) and the fact that there are more lucrative bookings True North could fill the arena with.

Having WHL back would be cool. At the ripe old age of 11 I used to work the penalty box for the Winnipeg Warriors and there were always some interesting comments from the players between the boxes after a big fight! I remember all the schools getting free tickets (I still have a few) and filling up the building with loads of screaming kids. But I also remember that 9-63 season... man that was UGLY!
