Most arenas say anything over 35 mm is not aloud.

I have dealt with True North on this in the past. Their regulation is VERY outdated and should be changed. The ruling should be that photographs taken are for your personal use only and you can not obstruct others when taking your pictures, do so from a safe spot, your photos can not be used in a portfolio or sold commercially. Not based on the camera. Many people are buying dSLR camera and are not pros. This is also an issue when many point and shoot cameras are of such great quality and have long-zooms on them but they are allowed. It doesn't make sense. In many arenas there is a limit of the lens length. I was able to bring my camera into the arena in San Jose and take as many pictures as I want and my gear would be considered pro in the MTS Centre. San Jose policy "Cameras: Guests are permitted to take still photographs during Sharks games. However, use of camera equipment may not infringe upon the comfort, safety or convenience of fellow guests. So as not to block the view of our guests, lenses exceeding six inches in size arenÂ’t permitted during Sharks games, except by accredited members of the media. Tri-pods or single-pods are also not permitted as they can cause a tripping hazard." sharks.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=464226 inches, damn, mine is like 12 inches, and im no pro ....bet the ladies like you alot........

Yup, I got dinged by the MTS Centre lady for using my camera - a Canon Rebel XTi with a Sigma 10-20 mm wide angle lens. "Point and Shoot only, sir" she says. I ask her where it says that (I didn't see it in my TPA) and was essentially told that "It's the rule because I said so". Nonsense! Why can't I snap a few decent quality memories of one of the best nights of my life?
I never even got to put on my Canon 100 mm F2.8L macro ISM which takes FANTASTIC action shots. What a great birthday present from the wife that was!

I have the puck dropping and Big Buff fighting recorded with my Canon Powershot....check it out! Anwyay, right at the end of the clip, I was told by the attendant that I cannot take video in the MTSC. Still pictures are allowed but no vids. I was pretty pissed....nevertheless I did get video of the best part of the game

Thanks. The wife got me a Canon Powershot G12 for a wedding present earlier this year. The HD video is pretty nice and I took some sweet still pictures of the game as well! Can't wait to get busted for recording on October 9th!

I explained the Sharks policy and noted that the NHL does NOT have any such policy and she went into automaton mode and just repeated the same incorrect lines over and over again. Front-line staff needs to be brought up to the major league level methinks. m.

Pretty disappointing stance. I wonder if they'd allow me to bring my 1976 Polaroid? No? Crap! I guess I'll have to capture the whole thing on slides. Can't do slides? I suppose I'll have to hire an artist to draw some sketches throughout the game, similar to a court reporter.
Seriously though - while I can understand not allowing 'professional' lenses it makes no sense at all that I can't bring my 1.4 50mm to take some pictures of us in our seats, etc. I get that not every ticket rep can be a camera expert, but come on.......

The type of camera should not be the issue. What you are doing with the pictures should be.
A Canon T3i with a kit lens is less of a pro camera then a Canon G12 - yet the G12 is allowed....it doesn't make sense
I wonder if people will get take-down notices from TN if they post a picture they took to Flickr or a similar site?

Can anyone donate $7000 to me so I can buy a Leica M9? It's not a 'professional' camera at all!
