i sure hope that there was a provision that if he signs with another NHL team, the Jets will be compensated. Good riddance, I say.

I loved Buff, hope he enjoys his retirement. Why trash him?

I loved Buff, hope he enjoys his retirement. Why trash him? He hasn’t retired for starters. But I wish him the best. Glad the saga is over.

I wanna hate the guy for this but I just can't! He was so much fun. Watching him rag-doll players two at a time during the playoff run a few years back was one of my favourite memories. Would be sad to see him on another team next year if he still wants to play but good luck big fella! You sure were a favourite of mine!

I think Buff is done playing, that said I wish he was still with us. Nothing but best wishes to him and his family.

No he hasn't retired officially, however when it was time to get back on the ice for his rehab, he decided at that time he didn't want to rehab any further. By the time the next season gets underway he will be almost 36, you think anyone will take a chance on him? You think he would come back for one or two million a year? I am sure he is done. Chevy said he asked him many times about being traded and he didn't want that. He didn't feel like he had it in him anymore to play. I suppose if he could do it over he would have shown up to camp and then retired

Good/indifferent memories about Buff. The early years here he ballooned up in weight and did what he wanted to do. Finally the organization gave him the ultimatum to get physically fit and buy in. Was demoted to a third/second line forward position. Obviously didn't like it. Returned back and started to buy in more and play better. His best season for the total buy in was when the Jets went to the Western Final.
Other great things was his direct hand in getting rid of Kane when Chevy was afraid to. Forced Chevy's hand.

Well that Buff saga is over. Another is about to arise. I am sure there is a NHL owner willing to offer up big bucks that may tempt the man child back into the rink. But like many have said, I'll miss the devil may care attitude, the big hits, taking down 3 players at a time (one of your own mates included), singing on the bench with chin strap up and his fearlessness. Now if we could just play some hockey!!

Undeniable off-the-charts strength and talent and fans like me are really going miss the big guy. And you'd think the Jets are really going to miss him too, but somehow as the season progressed, the D-corps seemed to gel about as well as we could have hoped despite his absence. I wouldn't say the Jets were better without him because we have nobody that can do what he could do... but I would say we probably have a better idea what we've got in the defensive ranks without him absorbing the 30 mins a game he probably would have gotten.

Without doubt one of the most entertaining guys in the league. While the way he left taints his memory a bit I will always love what he brought to this team. While I think many teams would love to tend him I don't think it will ever happen. The big guy is done.

I'm absolutely going to miss the big man and everything he brought to our team. It saddens me that it ended like this. I think some people in his life gave him some bad advice. Any of us on this forum who have contemplated, or actually retired, know what a difficult decision that can be. I read his wife's lengthy post, and honestly I can't imagine how stressful it must have been in their home. I wish Dustin and his family all the best for a happy and healthy future.

I hope management stays on good terms with Buff and vice versa. Buff was the icon of the new Winnipeg Jets and will always be welcome back. Very talented, unique person. We’re not likely to see his likes again.
