This is a little off the current events of the day. As you guys know I have some dogs. I was walking them a few days ago and was on my usual nightime walk. I didn't notice anything unusual on way out but on my way back home there was some junk on the road that wasn't there before. I hate litter and will pick it up and dispose of it. Well on retrieving it, I found it was a bag with some garbage and a hockey card. Specifically an O-Pee-Chee Morris Lukowich 1981-82 card and it was signed, all in it's own sleeve and in perfect condition. How do you like that. Now I've met Morris a few times at golf events. Hes a small fellow. Hard to believe he was a pro hockey player and a good one at that. He's a nice fellow quite willing to chat about the Winnipeg days. He's a Winnipeg booster for sure. I do know he doesnt live in my neck of the woods. So I have no idea how that signed card ended up on the road in my neighbourhood. Maybe a spurned friend? Who knows? Maybe it was meant to be. Hopefully I'll see him soon and can ask him about it? BTW a mint sign Lukowich is worth $1.50 CDN. Yikes.

Yeah there aren't too many hockey cards out there that are actually worth much, but that's still a very nice find! Never know what you're going to find when you sort through a bag of garbage laying in the street haha jk. I never met him and barely remember watching him play but from what I remember was pretty skilled and a ton of heart! In contemporary terms, somewhat comparable to a Brian Little maybe?

Well just to clarify, so as not to sound like a homeless person rummaging through garbage for cans, it was a large clear ziploc bag. The garbage was electronic stuff. LOL. The Jets of that day: Dougie Smail, Ron Wilson, Dave Christian, Murray Eaves and others tended to be small, by todays standards at 5'10"ish. And they skated hard but shifts tended to be longer so there was more flow to the game. Less of the dump and run and try to set up the cycle. I have a buddy who collected cards of all sorts, not just hockey, and used to brag about their value and then, boom, the bottom fell out. He still has a whole room of them. I have seen auctions where boxes full of cards on pallets are sold for $80. Thats Kenny's cards fate. That is a lot of cards to sort through to find a Honus Wagner!😫

Glad you still have a sense of humour! I'm trying to keep mine in "these trying (etc) times". I've never been a card collector but went through a phase as a kid buying a pack a week for maybe a year or so, so I have few in a desk drawer and I know nothing of value. No Gretzky or Lemieux rookies. I have a stack of Esso cards from back in the 80's or 90's too, I'm sure they aren't worth the card stock they're printed on, but I could never bring myself to tossing them.
