Eakins was obtained for a 2021 4th round pick that upgraded to a 2021 third round pick if the Jets made the the 2019-20 playoffs OR they signed Eakins before July 5, 2020 ( 4 days after the scheduled July 1 UFA signing frenzy)
Did the Jets make the playoffs? I guess that the July 5 got changed to Oct 13 if the the UFA date is Oct 9.
Do the Jets sign Eakins? Wait until after the UFA signing week? Seems like an ideal situation for collusion. We will sign you on Oct 15 for 2 years x 2M if you promise not to sign with someone else.

So the consensus #1 is Lafreniere. 6'1" and 195 he's going to be a big man. But what do I know?? Let's take him if we can. But I gotta say, I like this Byfield kid at centre. 6'4" and 215. Here's what I don't want.....short defencemen. If the Calgary series taught us anything, we gotta have toughness, grit, and skill all preferably in one package. If we finish 9th or 10th, do we make a trade to move up??

If the Jets get Lafreniere what happens?
LW Connor and Ehlers . both top 6 guys. Would the Jets trade for a Centre?
Is Little going to play? It sounded like a possibility for the play in games would have been a big jump in for him missing so much training time.

I kind of liked the way Eakin played while he was with vegas, I think he fit into the style of play they had going at the time...but based on his body of work while he was here, I can't see Chevy going out of his way to sign him. I can't say definitively that he didn't want to play here, but he didn't strike me as enthused about.
He could be an OK 4th liner I guess if you find a couple of guys he can really gel with, then again Maurice doesn't believe in 4th lines so why waste the money...I think I'd rather keep that 3rd rounder.

Probably more thrilling than the hockey will be Draft Lottery Monday 5pm. #1 pick goes to one of these teams, my order of preference in order of bias or who I thinks is most deserving of a break: 1. Jets 2. Panthers 3. Wild 4. Predators 5. Penguins 6. Rangers 78. tie Oilers - Leafs
History tells us it will likely be Oilers or Leafs.

Well Ric it was the Rangers getting the number 1 choice. We are #10. Hopefully Byfield is still available, eh!

Well...I suppose it's better than Oilers, Leafs or Penguins. There are some good prospects at 10.

I imagine they go with the best player available but a bigger bodied center or D man would help us alot. There's Brayden Schneider at 6.02 and 202lbs if you are looking for a bigger D man.

10. Winnipeg Jets Kimelman -- Jake Sanderson, D, USA U-18 (NTDP): Depth at defenseman was a problem for the Jets this season, but Sanderson (6-1, 185) could play a big role in providing it. He's an outstanding skater whose game got better as the season went on. Sanderson's defensive play already is strong, and his offensive game is catching up quickly. He also was captain of the USA Hockey National Team Development Program U-17 and U-18 teams, which shows the respect he's earned from his coaches and teammates. Morreale -- Sanderson: Sanderson is a mobile, puck-moving, left-shot defenseman who defends with aggression and passion. He scored 29 points (seven goals, 22 assists) in 47 games and is committed to play at the University of North Dakota next season. Lepage -- Sanderson: The imposing defenseman is as capable of running the power play as he is at shutting down opposing forwards, and he fits perfectly the style of defenseman sought by the Jets. source: www.nhl.com/news/2020-nhl-draft-mock-draft/c-318386968

Sanderson may be agile and aggressive but at his size, he is going to be turned into roadkill very quickly. This does not solve any problems- we already have Pionk and Heinola who fit that description.
