The Jets have some good cap space, a core of talent and a window of 2 years before their stars price themselves out of the Jet future. And then there is the expansion draft and a probable flat salary cap during that period as well. It seems to me that if the Jets do not get it done next year, the window for doing so starts to close rapidly therafter.
Unless there is a trade the Jets have Morrissey , Pionk and Heinola as smaller skilled d-men with Niku as an outside shot. DeMelo is not physically imposing... He is not going to be a player to settle down the other team's nasty.
If Demelo wants more than 2 - 2.5 M he might not be a Jet in November. Dillon should be close to Chairots 3.5x3.. even though he made 3.9 on the last year of his 3.2 x 5
If Little retires the Jets will be in a CAP position to compete for Pietroangelo if 8x5 gets its done. Otherwise maybe they could trade Pionk for Paryako give the Blues 2.5 M in cap room and take on Steen's last year of his 5.75 cap hit with the Blues retaining 2 M. That would let the Blues hang on to Pietroangelo.
Morrissey Parayko
Dillon Poolman
Heinola/Soucy/Samberg/Hamonic
The Jets would be back to being the hammer rather than the nail.
In this fantasy Hamonic signs to 2M x 4
Steen won't come here. We have nothing but soft D-men and that's where this team needs to start!
