Original 6 week continues with notables Patrick Kane, Andrew Copp, Ben Chiarot, Michael Hutchinson?? and their Detroit Red Wings in town.
Jets, as well as they've been playing 5 on 5 pretty much all season, have 3 significant warts on their game. Those are: faceoffs, penalty kill and especially the power play. Coach Bowness admits it, the PP sucks, no matter what word you use to that effect. More eloquently, the PP is under-performing. He promises significant changes. It seems that so far he's stopping short of replacing the coach in charge of it.
Still in the battle for first!
From Illegal Curve:
Jets projected lines & D pairs: Ehlers - Scheifele - Vilardi Perfetti - Namestnikov - Barron Niederreiter - Lowry - Appleton Iafallo - Gustafsson - Jonsson-Fjallby Morrissey - DeMelo Dillon - Pionk Samberg - Schmidt Brossoit Hellebuyck Bigoljetairliner stat and news primer in another thread: Looks like Brossoit will be in net tonight for Winnipeg. Here's how the Red Wings & Jets match up: GOALS FOR/GAME: Detroit – 3.55 / Winnipeg – 3.30 GOALS AGAINST/GAME: Detroit – 3.19 / Winnipeg – 2.60 SHOTS FOR/GAME: Detroit – 30.2 / Winnipeg – 30.7 SHOTS AGAINST/GAME: Detroit – 31.4 / Winnipeg – 28.9 POWERPLAY: Detroit – 22.1% / Winnipeg – 16.7% PENALTY KILLING: Detroit – 78.4% / Winnipeg – 73.9% The Jets did get a bit of good news with Kupari shedding the non-contact jersey in practice and Bowness saying that they expect him back after the holidays. Also, Winnipeg goaltending prospect Thomas Milic is having an excellent start to his professional career. He has a 9-2-1 record with the ECHL’s Norfolk Admirals, including a save% of .920 and a goals against average of 2.24. Go JETS Go!

No excuses if the Jets lose to this bottom-feeder tonight.

The Jets have been very good at 5 on 5 all year. Was just looking at some stats on Natural Stat Trick and noticed the following about Winnipeg at 5 on 5:
Winnipeg has less than 50% of 5 on 5 goals versus only 3 teams this season (EDM, VEG, & DAL), while also breaking even against another 3 franchises (LA, SJ, & TB).
The Jets have scored at least 70% of 5 on 5 goals against 5 teams this season (DET, COL, ANA, NJ, & FLA).

No excuses if the Jets lose to this bottom-feeder tonight. Not really a bottom feeder. 15 wins. Middle of the pack.

Beat up by Ottawa in a nasty game that the refs and DoPeS blew. Lost 2 players in one swoop and Perron (D) suspended. Travesty.

Perron certainly deserved the suspension...cross-checking an innocent player in the head. The refs & DoS blew it on the cross-check to Larkin's head though. Just one of many screw ups by the guys in charge of "safety" lately.

Ehlers was having success holding onto the puck more, and, so far he's regressing to getting rid of it too quickly and with no accuracy.

Slowish starts at home seems to be becoming a thing again.
