That's the kind of goal you wish there were more assists to go around...Toninato on the forecheck started that whole thing. The third assist thing again!? 😳 😉👍.

Wondered about the wisdom of having Scheif out there in the last minute, but he made a few good defensive plays. Would have liked to see him try harder for that empty net. And the pursuit of that funny less-than-4-goals-against record continues! 44 is the all time record...Jets now at 27. When do they stop counting, I wonder. Who has the most consecutive games with less than 5 goals? How about less than 3? For instance, is 10 consecutive games with less than 3 goals better than 27 with less than 4? You'd have to dive into individual games and do a tally. Nice run by the Jets, defensively and with solid goaltending. But, to keep it in perspective, we did lose some of those games. This is nice fodder for the talking heads, but who cares. I'm fine with winning 6-5. Just win baby. If the Minnesota wild currently hold this benchmark, what season was it and how did they do in the playoffs?

No matter what though, the Jets are (amazingly) a good defensive team with pretty much the same d-corps they've had the last few years. You know..the one that many of us wanted to completely give away? HAHA

Pionk seems to be getting back to form. Schmidt has been playing well although his cap hit is an issue. All these guys have no problem getting in front of shots. A big factor in the goals against. Heinola is still an unproven commodity, so where he fits in this season is uncertain. I just don't see him as a playoff guy. He's not big enough. Forwards that give a damn can make defencemen look a whole lot better.

Heinola and Schmidt are the same height, with Nate carrying a few more maturity pounds (10 more of them according to the DBs I checked). I would offer that Heinola in his prime can (and hopefully will) be better that Schmidt was in his prime. And he was pretty good!

Forwards who care and play the whole 200 feet are absolutely the most important. I think that's why so many of us rag on 55 because for YEARS he hasn't defended. The change this year for him is obvious, let's hope he keeps it up.

Ville at the end of pre-season was better than 88 and after this season we will either have to trade Ville or he will be the 7th guy. I think the team may look to re-sign Dillen and Demelo and then buy-out Schmidt, trade Stanely for a bag of pucks and Chilshom will be the #7 guy. This assumes no other upgrades via trade deadline that we retain into next season - which would complicate things further. The big Swede is at least a season or two away and I do not see any other young guys ready to play in the NHL.

I'm ok with Ville as the 7th and if he can pass Schmidt on the depth chart, good. He's listed at 181 lbs. He's probably more like 175.
That's a tough go in front of the net. He'll get his chance. We've been waiting.
Maybe a buyout on Schmidt, or eat some salary in a trade. Whichever costs less.

Ville has had more than enough chances to make the Jet lineup but has not done so. I cannot see how he or Stanley are a part of the Jets' future.

The guy has been given 35 NHL games, hardly much of a chance in my opinion. Only a handful (7) of other players drafted in the same 1st round have less games played than Heinola.

Keep your eye on the asterisked modern era record if you like...I figure why not go for the all time record that dates back to 1928.
I mean 27 games is already a pretty amazing feat for what seems more of an observance than a record really, but it's a fun thing to follow for as long as it lasts!

How about fewest goals against in 4 consecutive playoff series wins? Let's shoot for that one.
