Antropov has all the hallmarks of an overpaid underperformer. Should Winnipeg look for deals to move him and get some young talented forwards in return? Given his large salary, there is plenty of money to play with. Spector's Hockey (@spectorshockey) is reporting Toronto is looking for that kind of player but I wonder if they would take him back NHL Trade & Free Agent Rumor News – October 1, 2011. - t.co/LxpkomBoDiscuss.

the problem with these topics/threads is that people seem to forget another team would have to WANT antropov for us to trade him....

I don't think there is much of a market for Antropov. The league knows that he is slow and coming off of a down year. The only way they will get anything for him is if he has a good season or a team is desperate at the trade deadline.
Don't bet on Toronto as Burke was the one that got rid of him.

Nobody would take Antropov with his hefty contract. Maybe at the trade deadline if he's putting up okay numbers, but don't expect anything good in return. Dude is a bag of cement on the ice. Doesn't move.

his foot speed is pretty bad to say the least, but he controls the play along the boards in the offensive zone with that size. hopefully he has a bounce back year and we can get something for him at the deadline, or he produces and is worth keeping.

So far he seems to be a slow lumbering giant out there and doesn't seem to fit on the speedy young team, I could not believe he was on the PK against CAR on Wed. It would take a miracle to find someone willing to take on his overpaid salary.
On the other hand, he was playing hurt for most of last season and once he was feeling better he played well at the end of the season. I think all we can do is give him a chance and hope for the best.

The only way to get rid of Antropov would be to package him with a more desirable player.
Much like the Flames getting rid of Kotalik by trading Regher and 2 round pick.

Not sure if i can handle watching him lug his massive frame around the ice. Watching him on a line with burmistrov was unbearable a few nights ago. He doesn't fit the mould of the team one bit. Still 2 years on his contract. I hope Chevy is devising a plan to get rid of him as we speak.

Yes, this is a very hopeful wish, to replace Antropov with another Kane/Little/Scheifele type player at less money, but that's what GMs are paid for. I expect Chevy to do whatever is necessary to fix the Jet's problems and it is clear that most of us want to see a big improvement or a trade for Antropov.
FYI here is the TSN quote about Toronto:
TSN.CA: Darren Dreger reported the Toronto Maple Leafs are “keenly interested in adding another top forward”. He claimed the Leafs are willing to part with a couple of younger players to make this deal work, but nothing is imminent and it could take until at least November until they make a move.

Still 2 years on his contract. I hope Chevy is devising a plan to get rid of him as we speak. Here are a few ideas. Some have already been mentioned. Plan A - He doesn't fit the mould of the team at all. Antropov was aquired as part of the "assets" sold to TNSE by ASG. Perhaps TNSE could place him on waivers and if he isn't claimed send him to Newfoundland. TNSE could just chalk it up as a part of doing business, an $8 million expedniture to make the hockey club better. Plan B - Work out a transfer agreement with a team from the KHL or another European league as the Hawks did with Huet a few years back. Plan C - trade him Plan D - Play him and hope for the best. Plan E - Maybe Mark could phone Gary and request that GM Maloney of the Coyotes pick Antropov up off waivers. After all MC is a 1/29th owner of the Coyotes.

We wouldn't be able to get back more in terms of present value or future assets than what he is worth right now. Believe it or not, he has had some good years and put up some points.
He won't fly past anybody but he will end up with his fair share of points. He has some good hands and has size.
In regards to his salary-there are guys that provide far less for what they get paid.
I think he'll do fine. I'd rather have him at $4 million than Scott Gomez at $7.3 or many other players.

Anyone remember Paul Maclean . We use to boo him and he drove us all crazy with his style but he scored tons of goals.reminds me of Antropov
