So does that mean I was demoted, or he was promoted? I'd give ya a karma for that......but Figures! A day late and a dollar short.

Certain members were abusing it and making work for us. We had a choice to warn, suspend or ban the abusers, leave status quo or suspend it altogether.
Since the Karma feature was only of value when it remained fun for everyone who truly cared about it, and it wasn't worth losing members over, putting an end to it for now made the most sense.

How can you abuse the Karma function? that's a very good point. It wasn't really a point; it was a question, but everyone can rest assured that it wasn't ended whimsically. People can still acknowledge good posts with positive feedback though. e.g., "Good post. Karma +1", etc... as was the true intent of the function anyway.

I really like this argument thread. I enjoyed reminiscing about some of the past disputes (ones including yours truly). Ah, the memories! You know what? I'm in such a good mood...KARMA FOR EVERYONE!!! YAY! Oh, wait...
And just for old time's sake, even though he doesn't hang out here anymore, GO TO HELL, SLIPPY! Man, that felt good. Almost as good as getting a karma.

Well Done bcmike, a lot of thought and time put into this. Chevie keep up the good work. Yeah - good job, bcmike! Karma for you! Oh, yeah. I forgot. Sigh. Remember the days when we could give and receive karma? Those were the days. Feels just like yesterday...

Your typing out an acknowledgement of bcmike's excellent post means less without the karma function?

Remember the days when we could give and receive karma? Those were the days. Feels just like yesterday... Remember the days when you could smite people that you disagreed with, those were even better days. Bring back the smite, but blank karma that Crap was dumb.

And I meant he raised a good point, how can karma be harmful and abused....I thought it was the smite button that was abused

We didn't wake up today and think that this would be a fun way to mess with the forum (i.e., whimsy). I've explained the options that were open to us and I think the best one was chosen. Not everyone will agree, but isn't that always the case with anything? All members are still free to share their thoughts and debate about the Jets, etc. That's what we started this forum for and it remains our #1 focus. Some put high value on their Karma score - I get that - but I'd say it's generally way down the list of priorities in the scheme of things here.
